Wiring Harness

G'day all,

I am about to do the wiring harness on a GSX1100SZ, usually would have looked at all of the old posts, and picked up hints. So seeing we are starting over it would be a good place for me to start.

I already have the SZ wiring diagram, that I have attached, and I have the harness route diagram from the owners manual. But if anyone has actual pictures of the harness going back on the frame that would be very handy and appreciated.

Cheers Paul

Good on ya Shane, being able to get back to the old site and find tech stuff is a huge relief, for those of us looking for hints from the "Wise Ones" ;)

Cheers

Mate I suggest you visit one of the Queensland members armed with your digital camera and go nuts. That way you can take as many photos as you need. It gets pretty exciting under the tank and back.......

Where abouts in Brisbane are you? I have my 7fiddy slightly deconstructed and you can take some pics there if you like. From looking at the two there isn't a lot of difference. PM me if interested

Good on ya PK, will appreciate any help and or pic's of ya 750 wiring. I'd say it will be the same as 1100. I'm on the Southside, and judging by last weekends Power Circle ride, there is only a few on us over this side of town?

Cheers

Cheers Patrick, I have this one also. If you would like the colour diagram, send me a PM and I will send via normal email.

Cheers Revolution, will have a serious look today and come back to you. I have an old harness, which is not from the bike that is being rebuilt, and it is missing quite a few connections.

main difference between SZ and SD/SE wiring harness , as I can see, is in connector for "turn signal auto off" relay .....did not find any other difference ....how can I help you....

Happy NY All!

And I do get that most will be either still asleep or blind from last night, but if there are any electrical guru’s alive, let me know your thoughts?

I have finally got to the wiring harness from a few months back, and have got almost all connections working except I cannot get the headlight to switch on or off? I can however get it working quite easily by connecting to another live wire.

As the bike is still in an early stage of re-build, a couple of bits that might be a cause?

• I am using a flasher relay from my running bike, which appears to be only 2 pin and not 3 as it should be. Other bike has a fairly molested wiring harness, so don't know if the flasher is also a headlight relay?
• No rectifier/regulator is fitted as yet, and I see that White/Red wire is coming from light switch block to the rectifier/regulator. Don’t know if this would cause the headlight switch not to work?

I will post some pic’s and a wiring diagram, which won't really show a lot, but I would appreciate any help.

Cheers

Paul

Paul,
get rid of the wire from the generator to the switch then back to the reg/rec and wire it straight from the gen to the reg/rec. Then run a fused wire to the switch and straight to the light. I think some bikes run a light relay but if you stick to the standard bulbs, the switch will handle it.
I used the same diagram to wire my Kat from scratch.

From other conversations and looking at the diagram, I think the 3 pin relay was used when you use the self cancelling indicator unit, if you have a 2 pin you may have to modify the loom a bit which will result in powering the relay, then the output goes to the indicator switch and and on to the indicators from there.

Thanks Ben, I like the idea of a fused wire, and will give it a go. I have been tracing wires all arvo, and it is definitely not shed weather today in Bris!

I also found a switch/connection matrix in my manual, which has helped. As the Harness I have is from an E34 SZ (Italy) and the switch block is new from the USA E03 SZ, and by luck these two model versions have the same switch wiring

At least you have similarities. I had that diagram, an E model loom, VFR400 switches, LED indicators and a MotoGadget dash.
The first thing I did was establish the power source. Then I started connecting all the systems up one by one and before long, the bike was alive.

Yeah that sounds like a nightmare Ben, I'm all good now with all lights/light switches working as they should :)

That's about all I can do without the motor in, so might still need some tips once I get to that point.

Hi all,
I know this is a late reply..........but I have just received my OEM harness from Webike in Japan, cost $290 and it looks the goods. I haven't installed yet but it looks good. For general info, might be a cheaper option for some owners. I know my original was fill of green death and I couldn't be bothered.

Cheers

No worries Phil, I did spot that one a while ago before I got stuck into the old one, and I kinda worked out a price with shipping and it was about $AUD400.00.

How much did it cost you all up?

Cheers

Paul

Looking good Paul.

Don't forget to put horn in before motor otherwise you'll have fat time getting it in. (if using original mount point)

Got one off eBay for $13.00 about half the diameter than originals at a 1/4 of the price, and she is already in the original spot. Just gotta get the coils and pretty much done on the electrics :D

Cheers
