What's a very original Wes Cooley worth?

I've been offered a very, very nice and original GS1000S for 10k.

Are they an appreciating thing?

Are they a good ride?

Inquisitive minds need to know...

Pardon my ignorance but what makes a Wes Cooley a Wes Cooley? (Of course I know who Wes Cooley is, just want to know how it differs from the common cooking variety GS1000S?)

I have seen a few lately, and have no idea what they are worth. But I would also be interested to know what is a "genuine" and what is a "replica" ? and how do you tell the difference, and what would each be worth ?

Cheers

Paul

I misspoke...

I mean a GS1000S.

The Wes Cooley tag is normally applied to the white/blue white/red GSs with a bikini fairing from the late seventies.

The simple answer is yes. But this really depends on the overall condition. The Wes Cooley tag is from the US market.

The current blue and white 1979 N models that I have seen advertised are missing the correct mirrors which are now selling when they come on the market for around A$1000 pair and the correct exhaust for each model is even harder to find. The other parts that are regularly missing is the chrome trim around the tail light with the 2 clips and the fairing screen mould and 2 clips.

Both models had 18" rear wheel with the N wheels black / alloy and the T gold / alloy. Different indicators, discs, front callipers, fuel tap, carbs, cams, choke location (on some with a hand full of N's with the choke on the cards) Koni shocks. However in Europe they had the rear air shocks and 17" like the E model.

N exhaust is longer that the T which finishes at the axle.

Check this site from the Flying Banana builder Mike which has a huge amount of information between the different models 1979 N and 1980 T. http://www.theflyingbanana.com/gs1000s2.htm (some model variations listed on this page)

I am really really really lucky to own a Blue and White 1979 N model complete ex English 1979 Suzuki bike show bike, licenced and running but requires restoration and an even rare with a documented genuine Red and White 16500k T model complete with ALL the original owners manual, pressure gauge and the rego papers and first owner purchase contract.

Do you have any photos of the bike or the link to the sale?

The next suburb south from me someone is asking just under $20k for a Blue and White and there has been for sometime on eBay and Gumtree a Red and White T in Victoria for around $14500 with correct mirrors and stock exhaust supplied as well as the 4/1 fitted.

Overall the N model has the full dash and the T has the better performance. Be careful using the frame / vin numbers as there are evidently errors in the common listing.

Yell if I can help with any other info.

Tom

It's a T with the reversed paint scheme and shorter mufflers etc.

It's pretty much immaculate and complete down to the last nut and bolt.
I've seen it in the flesh.

It would likely end up as more of a show rather than go for me, but it does fill a niche in my collection between the Waterbottle and the Kat.

Surely I couldn't lose on it for that price?

Pictures to follow if I can secure some.

from what I have been told, read etc this was a tag given to the bikes in the US to stimulate the sales with his association with racing Suzuki's.
