I finally found a inner header pipe set for the 7 fiddy on ebay - on it's way from Germany. Very excited. Now I just have to pluck upo the courage to spend $600 on a set of outer pipes from Japan. Has anyone tried black gloss powdercoat as a substitute for black chrome? Views?
Good find with the inner pipes Paul. Yes, a set of Kat pipes were powdercoated satin black to see how it turned out. For a rider Kat they held up fine and after a couple of years still looked O.K. The original dual walled pipes would have helped the powdercoat to last better than if applied to single walled headers. The powdercoating was cheap compared to black-chrome and will not look anywhere near as good as black chrome but looks better than black header paint which has a limited life on a rider Kat.
Last time I saw a quote to black chrome a set of tired original Kat pipes it was around $2,100 plus freight and insurance (you'll want insurance) from the place in Melbourne.
Since I plan to powdercoat the lot I'm not fussy on conditionof the chrome. There are quite a few pairs on eBay at the moment. I think I'll wait until after christmas so they don't get lost in the xmas mail.
