Tyres, That old chestnut

Well after doing some post ride checks it looks like new tyre time again,
so after having a bit of a nosey around I found these bridgestone radials in sizes
110/80-19
140/70-18
Just wondering if anyone has had anything to do with them or any thoughts forthcoming
also I can't remember if the 140 will fit the standard rear rim and without fouling the brake arm

Hi Max, I don't use Bridgestone so no help for you there. The 140 will go on the 2.50 cast rim however, a 130 is a better fit that gives the most rubber contact with the road and doesn't distort the tyre profile. Not all tyres are the same in the size department so 140 will fit a stock rear set-up and not come close to touching the brake torque arm and some 140 tyres only clear the arm by a mm or two. Having said that most 140 tyres should fit the stock rear and clear the arm and chain.

Cheers.

.......what is the rear rim width?

Hey Derek it has 18 x 2.5 stamped into it (takasago ww), also upon closer inspection have just found a broken spoke so more repairs.

Hi Max, I use Bridgestone rubber on ALL my bikes including my track bikes. I find the tyres good and still use the BT45 Front and also the Bridgestone Batalax BT-39 F slicky compound 100/90 - 19 M/C F Tube Type Front on my '81 1100 and "87 SBE Super Kat's.
Get on the Web site Whites Racing Products and leave a message for Craig White and he will be able to help you on prices and delivery costs to your place.

I would go no wider than 130. 140 will handle poorly and wear off the centre real quick...........and besides a 140 shall be heavier than a 130 and shall spin up slower........

Thanks for the replies,
might go down the BT45 path. While I like the SD's they wear pretty quick (between SoO and the 35th 1 set killed) and I don't have any issues with grip from the BT45's on the popup but get quite substantially better mileage being a dual compound tyre.

Cheers
Max
