Take Care with your Overtaking

Read this post on another forum this morning... seems now the public is doing the police's work for them and the nanny state is getting worse... the "He" in question was a guy towing a caravan apparently.

In short:

He recorded us as we passed him on double lines and showed the video to a cop who was at the top of hampton where we stopped. Cop then came over to us and fined Errol and said the rest will get the fines in the mail after he studies the video

Knowing these guys they probably weren't going slow and double lines are usually there for a reason, but we all know there are plenty of times that it's perfectly safe to overtake a slow moving vehicle... I wasn't there so can't comment on the situation except to say beware the dash camera...

I'd be straight to court with this.

I can't see how third-party footage could be enough evidence to form a conviction on the spot.

If the offence can be shown on video and the vehicle and number plate is clear it is not third party. The video was handed over and the police would have taken down details of the owner then that party will be the witness to videoing the offence. Then its viewed by police and this is big in Sydney as council ranges when they book you for illegal parking they now also take a photo. The highway patrol in Sydney there cameras run as soon as the vehicle is started and i know this as we in KA Sydney have a highway patrol as a member.
General public who use there mobile phones to record offences can be used by Police.

That's why they also say that be careful taping your own illegal activities..... Like the goose on Youtube that has recorded him and his mates going through Mt Nebo 50 zone at 80km/h plus. And you can see his mates number plate clear as.......
