Strange Frame mounts on 1100

hi all

today i looked at an 1100 frame in a local workshop which is part of a customers rebuild.

by all accounts the frame is Kat, but has a few odd mountings.
serial number on frame is GS110X-518331

as you can see,
1. the engine mountings on the lower frame tube have 3x bolt holes.
2. there is NO steering lock on the steering stem.
3. the top of the steering stem has a small flat plate as if it was intended to be a Lock to Lock of the steering.
4. there is a strange threaded mount low of the right side of frame, just in front of the foot peg mountings.

the shop wonders if its a Pre-Production frame.

any ideas?

cheers
Stuart

Those features are on GSX frames. Looks like the Katana rear sub frame has been added to a GSX frame.

It is interesting! If the engine and frame are the original combination and the outer diameter of the generator rotor can be measured, it can be verified.

Hi Takahiro

What would be the difference in the generator rotor sizes?
What is an 1100 Kat diameter V's a standard GSX motor?

According to the service manual, the outer diameter of the generator rotor of fat ladies is 130 mm, 1100 and 1000 Katanas are 118 mm in SZ, and 128 mm in SD and laters.

Without being 100% sure it has the original engine using the engine number or the engine spec (flywheel diameter) can at times be misleading. It may help however, the most accurate way to confirm what a frame was when it left the factory is the V.I.N. Thanks for the V.I.N. Stuart. GS110X 518331 is from the GSX1100EX V.I.N. series, most likely late 1980 or very early 1981. Frames can be coaxed into whatever form the owner likes but the V.I.N. helps work things out.

Cheers.
