Hi Folks, this may be old news however, it's worth posting up here on the new forum in case some missed the original announcement by Qld Transport.

"Reclassification of modifications to change a motorbike's seating capacity
- Commences 1 July 2014
As part of Queensland Government's commitment to reducing red tape and regulation, Transport and Main Roads has conducted a review into the approval requirements for changes to a motorbike's seating capacity.
As a result of this review, Transport and Main Roads has decided that these modifications will now be reclassified as basic modifications, meaning that vehicle owners will be able to self-certify the modification, provided the modification meets the requirements of the LL section of the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification. Certification by an Approved Person and affixing of a modification plate will no longer be needed for this modification.

This means that from 1 July 2014:

A motorbike owner who wants to change the seating capacity of their vehicle can do so without the need to see an Approved Person.
The technical requirements about seat length and pillion foot provisions still apply and must be followed. These can be found in the LL section of the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification (PDF, 267 KB).
Until these changes start, if you want to change the seating capacity of a motorbike you must follow the current process and have a modification plate fitted by an Approved Person.
In the coming weeks, Transport and Main Roads will write to all Approved Persons who are currently accredited to certify motorbike seating capacity modifications to tell them about the change."

Now all we need is to adopt the Vic club rego scheme and all will be right with the world in Qld

I don't care how many 'carrots' he dangles for motorcyclists in QLD, Newman is still a monumental shitc__t of the highest order and if I have any say in it he won't even be an MP, let alone Premier, come the result of the next election.

Anyhoo, rant over.

For reference, the seat length required for single-seat certification is apparently 500mm:
5.1 CONVERSION FROM TWO SEATER TO SINGLE SEATER

For a two seater motor cycle to be converted to a single seater, it is necessary to shorten the
seat and remove the pillion foot pegs/mounting brackets. For a motor cycle to be classified as
a single seater, it is necessary for the motor cycle to be fitted with only:
• one seat which has a length less than 500mm; and
• one pair of foot pegs and mountings.

5.1.1 Reduction in Seat Length

Only the upholstered section of the seat needs to be shortened.
The maximum length of the upholstered section of the seat is 500mm.
The shortened seat must have no sharp edges or protrusions.
Any equipment or fittings exposed by the seat modifications must be protected if they are likely
to cause injury to any person.

5.1.2 Removal of Foot Pegs and Mounting Brackets

The foot pegs must be removed.
There must be no sharp edges, damage to the frame, or damage to the trailing arms.
These modifications must not incorporate oxy-cutting or application of heat.

I don't reckon a stock Kat seat is quite that short...

Being in WA and not having a single seat requirement, what does this give you in Queensland? Cheaper rego and insurance?

And another good thing with the single seat is it is better to ride with because of the stable sitting position.

Is that the price for the solo rego? My renewal for 12 months this year all up was $235.45 with no restrictions.

That would be for the solo Tom, just paid mine for the Harley, if paid before expiry 6mths - $236.50 ; 12mths - $438.40...... or after expiry $292.15 ; $494.05 :(

WA is currently far cheaper than the east coast. A significant difference. I believe this will change as the WA government is changing the insurance to a "no blame" policy and this will reflect in the rego costs in the near future.

Don't forget the more cylinders the more you pay. My dear old NSR250 is $280 for the year on full rego. You bloes that think size is everything should have to pay more!
