Smashed windscreen

So the other day I am in the garage getting something down from a shelf. The Kat is directly below the shelf and being the lazy bugger that I am I decide not to move it but to reach up high and try and hook the cooler down. Well, it slipped and avoided my greasy grasp and lands four square on the screen and it shatters!!
I was incandescent with rage with myself!!
Anyway after I cooled down I give Suzuki a call and almost had a heart attack when they told me what a new replacement costs. It was more than I paid for the entire bike in 1983!
So now I am trying to source a company that will make a form and manufacture one for me. The alternative is a new (gasp) one or try to track a used one but they are as scarce as rocking horse shit or a virgin from Wales.
Wish me luck boys
Cheers
Mel

melwain,
Sorry to hear about the mishap, I feel your pain.

I went to move my bike about 4 feet, but instead of sitting on it and rolling forward, too easy i thought.
I decided to stand along side and push it sideway's ... lost my grip and balance, the bike rolled onto its side damaging the RH engine case and cover.

if it's an option, try eagle screens here in Western Australia ...www.eaglescreens.com.au, you can enquire on their website,
they were approx AUD$100.00 + postage to you in Cape Town, and available in different tints.
Cheers.

Yep it is a right bugger. I have sent of an email to Eagle Screens and now await their reply.
Thanks so much for the info. Hope it turns out ok. There is a company here in Cape Town and they do manufacture screens but they are not making forms at the moment but I am going to see them this week
Cheers

No probs mate, good luck with either supplier ...
Just FYI , I've replaced 2-3 windscreens with Eagle screens now, and I reckon they're 100% quality and a perfect fit.
Cheers.

MEL, WEBIKE have screens from $13.27 USD. There current range of windscreens total around forty. I hope this helps, cheers Ian...PS The last time I did something similar I dropped my JDM off the work stand and damaged a perfect tank.

Hi Mel, bugger about the screen mate. There are a few aftermarket makers for Kat screens and the quality varies but they will do the job. A brand spanking new genuine Kat screen from Suzuki here in Oz is listed at $378.90 and good used genuine ones are pretty thin on the ground so most replacement screens are aftermarket.

Cheers mate.

Got a quick reply from Eagle Screens today - $70 for the screen and $21 postage to Cape Town. Will check with my local guy and compare prices if he can manufacture one for me and then make a decision. Thanks for the info - really good!
Cheers

That's good news, There seems to be plenty of other options available to you, so I am sure it'll work out. Good luck.
Cheers.

Yep. Found a bunch of guys here in Cape Town who have a form and can make a screen for me within 3 days for R475 (that's South African monetary units also known a Bifocals because you can buy f..... all with them) So that's about $40 aussie thingies. Not to shabby
I will see what the quality is like when I get them but they make many screens for a large variety of bikes and a lot of the boys go there so can't be too bad!! They also make aircraft screens/windows so can't be too bad also
Thanks for all the help fellas
Cheers

Hi Mel

Can you please check if they have any spare Horten 2-29 screens.......for my blue seat?

Ta
Derek

Mel, I am surprised by your question. Being the keen Warbird fan I know you to be I would have thought the 2-29 isn't a stranger to your WWII files. O.K. they didn't go into production and only three prototypes were built, one was destroyed in a test flight, one destroyed by the makers and the only surviving example is in the States currently being restored after being neglected for 70 years. Clever blokes the Horton brothers.

Cheers Biggles.

Oh! How silly of me not to pick that one up. The other is a kid's story "Horton hears a who"
Anyway, I picked the screen up today. Brilliant - just as good as the original!
Derek - they have one for your blue seat - a Horten 2-29 screen but it is in yellow - is that ok? :D

Hi, all! I'm a real fresh newbie to this site, but apart from a new screen, does anyone know how to restore them?? Mine is still ok, but wouldn't mind trying to polish out some of the scratches etc, and was wondering if there was a miracle compound that works ok! Cheers!!

Hi TeeKay and welcome to the Forum. Where in QLD are you? The reason I ask is we are having a Kat ride from Brisbane up to Nanango on the 1st of August. As for miracle screen compound I don't have an answer for you on that. There are of course acrylic polish compounds out there I just have not used any of them on a screen.

Cheers,
Glen.

Thanks, Glen! I'm up just South of Gladstone! Unfortunately my bike is nowhere near rideable atm, but progress is being made lol. Suppose I'll keep trying to polish out the scratches, cheers!!
