Should I buy a Range Rover.

I need input on buying a car.
I have an '04 105 series Landcruiser (live axle) with front, back and side bars, winch, lifted etc. but I no longer use it for 4x4'ing.
I do a lot of stop start on the motorway to and from work and the truck is just that, a truck so I'm looking at something a bit more refined and sporty.
I came across an '05 Range Rover sport with the 2.7l TDV6. It looks the business but looks can be deceiving.

Are they a good car?

Hey Ben, I know a Landie Buff and will ask him tomorrow about the 05 Sport. Any mods or bolt on bits with it?

Cheers mate.

Doesn't appear to be. Just stock.
It has 22" factory wheels, 190k on the clock and all of the trimming you'd expect from a $100k car of its time.

Havent heard to many good things about Range Rovers. My old man has a V6 Petrol Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed its been a great car and eats Toyotas for breakfast. Cheers Murf.

Something to ponder on:...
85% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road. The other 15% made it home.
Land Rover is a company that has been turning ordinary motorists into mechanics since 1948..
Here in South Africa we say that if you want to travel through Africa use either a Toyota or Land Rover. Toyota because it will get you there without any problems. Land Rover because you will find parts throughout from all the broken down ones you will find to help you make it....
But seriously though they have improved vastly on reliability. Just remember if it is out of warranty or motorplan, which is probably is being a 05 model, any repairs to diesels and their turbos will bankrupt you.

Yeah I did see that one. I've googled the schizophrenia out of it since yesterday.
It appears you must be willing to take the heart ache to own one.
I think I'll be looking for a Toyota version of what I want. Not sure what though. Maybe the TD 100series in an auto.

Ben, I think that would make a LOT more sense.
PS. You'll also save a shit load of money and YOU WON'T LOOK LIKE SOME RICH TOSSER....IMHO

Bearing in mind I'm buying second hand. The 100series cruiser is more than the same year RR sport.
The Rangey was $100k+ new and the Tojo was in the 80's. The RR is now around $30k and the Toyota's are around $40k.
It's a known fact the Toyota is a better truck and holds its value but the Range Rover looks real nice.

Boogieman,
Just my 2 cents ... but factor in spare parts and servicing of the RR. A mate over here has a Audi Q7 (a 9 seater) the local dealer wanted 3k
for brake servicing and 1k to re-set the automatic driver seat back to factory settings, he entered his personal settings...
after a while it stopped working altogether and needed to be re set to factory before he could set it up to his preferences.

Just FYI, contact the local dealer and just enquire on say a .... 50k service or oem brake or head light assembly.

Don't buy a Range Rover Sport that's pre 2007/2008 - early RRS and Discos from the same period have all sorts of issues. 07/08 is when they got their shit together with QC and sorting out the bugs.
I'd love a RRS with the TDV8 in it - they're epic.

Hey Ben, sorry mate no joy with the Landie Guru today. The Hwy out here was closed for most of the morning and he had to be in other places and I couldn't get to his shed in time with the traffic issue - a fatal one sadly for someone. If you are still keen on the RRS let me know and I'll try to grab him on the phone.

Cheers.

Buy a 100 series turbo and swap your good bits over.
Then quit the old one and you have the best of both worlds if you go bush bashing again.
Most euro cars will cost a lot to keep on the road.
