The air is rich with win.
Hornet was in for a service and I popped (SWIDT? ) into the wreckers next door. The rear shock unit on the Katana was rooted. That is to say it is rooted 30 years after it left the factory rooted.
Aftermarket options from Hagon cost about $750. A unit from Wilbers cost $850.
Anyhow the nice bloke at Eastern Motorcycle wreckers cast his eye over it. I mentioned I had heard that a unit from a 2002-2004 D****ti Monster was pretty close fit with a little angle grinder work. We were walking to the parts area when I spied a unit lying on the ground. I asked what it was off and it looked a close fit. He had no idea but the name 'SACHS' on the side indicated it could well be a D***ti thing. Out with the ruler to find the original unit was 331mm long with 10mm fittings. This was 330mm with 10mm fittings. Surely the collars would be too wide. 31mm and 20mm on the original. 30 and 20mm on this Sachs thing.
I looked indifferent but was hooting internally. Please don't rape my wallet Mr. He stuck it on the bench and indicated the spring was slightly heavier but this was all good. I sighed and talked about the expense of a new spring and rebuild. "I'll let you have it for $95 he says". I mentioned about how it would have to do as I had few alternatives.
Contacted Krooztune who said a full rebuild would be $200.
CHANGE OUT OF 300 WHEN I WAS EXPECTING CLOSER TO 800.
