Self cancelling unit

Has anyone had any experience dealing with the "distance" unit in the instrument pannel that's piggy backed on the speedo/odo mechanism? I get that it cancells the blinkers after a certain distance (or time) but how doeas it work? More importantly, if you want to bypass it so it doesn't work any more but the blinkers do work, do you (a) just leave the 2 little wires off it or (b) bridge the two little wires in the dash panel (join them together) or (c) put some sort of resistor between the wires (and what size)? I have changed to a different speedo set up so I won't have the unit in there any more and I actually intend to change the blinkers to 4 LED units so will use an LED flasher can too and I am hoping that its just a matter of leaving the wires off all together but I know these things have a habit of coming back to bite you once you get everything assembled and you can spend hours, if not days, chasing a fix. PS My tame auto leco is overseas at the momemt!

It's just a reed switch.
It opens and closes by close proximity to a rotating magnet - you can leave it disconnected forever with no consequences whatsoever (no need to bridge the wiring or add a resistor etc.), and the indicators will just not self-cancel if you're still using the OEM flasher control unit.

It becomes completely redundant if you go away from the OEM indicator arrangement.
