SE Melbourne Poppy tragic.

Uncle

GSX250S Rider
Ahoy campers.

I may or may not have been on this forum a few years ago when i first started my oft-aborted poppy rest. Anyways the old login was written on a bit of papyrus someplace and was consumed in the cold winter of 2011.

Anyhoo, I have finally gotten around to collecting a few shekels to be thrown at the sad jolting corpse of my beloved 750s. Bought it about 8 years ago and rode it for a while before the motor decided that compression was an optional extra. Has sat in the shed looking sad and forlorn for a while.

However.......

Things have moved along. Sold my VFR and stuck the money into a slush fund. Currently she is fully stripped and the frame is off for painting. The wheels and swingers are being polished. Wheels will be sprayed in gold once the polishing is done. Plastics are being repaired. Forks have been rebuilt and repainted.

The plan is to go back to a gold frame & wheels . Keeping the candy red colour for the plastics. The motor is with a mate in Tassie who is gonna do a ground-up rebuild and spruce up. The seat is being recovered at Bithcin' Stitchin' with a tasteful Katana Kenji stitched into it.

I hope to have the thing done for the Island Classic next January.

Some good news. I have a second bike that is cosmetically rooted but was running. I plan to use it for a few spares but mainly as a blueprint for the rebuild as I have forgotten where all the bits go.

I have a few questions I hope someone can help me with:

1. The rear shocker is totally rooted. I know I can spend $700 on a replacement but has anyone tried / succeeded in using a unit off a later model whatever?

2. The pointy front bit of the fairing I have is a bit rooted. Lots of broken tabs. I can get these repaired but wanted to know if anyone has found a replacement. There is a mob in Sydney who have quoted me $650 but I wouldn't last out that much before I had had a look at the quality of their work. The last thing I want is a flimsy bit of raceglass.

3. Is there an option for replacing the stock front calipers for something twinpot? I have an RD250LC that I bought bracket adaptors for and stuck on a set of Yammy R6 Bluespots on.

I will have a million more questions over the coming months / years / decades.

If any of you have a need for a bit off the donor bike then give me a shout. The least I can do.

Gday Uncle Col
The dark-lord has recently done a rear shock conversion..
I'm sure he'll fill you in with the details.

Welcome Col
Unfortunately I am no use on the pop tart front, but am sure others will be a wealth of knowledge.

Hope to see you at the 35th meeting as that hopefully will give you enough time to get your ride in shape.

Cheers
Stuart

Hello Uncle, glad to see you have finally 'popped-up' here, I was wondering when you would, I quite enjoy your comments on that other forum so don't be shy here.

Nothing wrong with a 'darkside' our resident DarkLord has the definitive proof that a darkside is much faster than an 'almost' standard 1100 kat and 'slightly' modded 750 kat. sadly......

You'll find that John (and others) are very helpful, John goes by the name of 'darkside' and you could go through some of his posts to find out a few things that will help, he has replacement pop-up modules at a very reasonable price if yours is 'sus'.

Well, I'm going to pour me a scotch..

Cheers
Reg

re: your questions
1. I read elsewhere 600 ducati monster might fit, but I was very lucky to find the wilbers for the price I did.
My rear shock story with the dimensions clicky here

2. Its getting harder to find these parts in good nick. There are wrecks about put an add in the wanted section something might turn up did for me.
There is a mob in Sydney who have quoted me $650
Which mob? An affordable repro is over due...

3. i dont Know, I find the stock brakes with braided lines enough..

happy camper John

There goes the neighborhood...

Yeh, the grey bar with black foam grip in foreground looks like some sore of fitness equipment. I'm guessing a stair climber

Either it's Uncles, or he has been relegated to the rumpus room:p
Keen to know what is attached to the wheel in the left of pic?

Are you referring to the hallowed ground of BikeMe?

What's your handle there?

Fitness equipment? Obviously you have never met me. I have as much experience with that as Gary Glitter has with GILFporn (it is a paddock stand). The wheel on the left belongs to my last resto.......

Nice comeback!
And by the way, welcome. Only a newbee myself and hoping to catch up with others either at the 35th or SoO.
Hope to see you at one of these.

Yep Paul... well and truly gone now... no hiding in here.

Yeah, you got me uncle, that other forum and here are about it as far as forums go, I don't do farcebook and most forums get bent out of shape if you look at someone the wrong way, here, the people are very helpful and like a good stir, you'll be fine so ask away.... no question too stupid to answer... some might be too hard though but we'll try.

From one pop up owner to another. Welcome to the Kat House brother. Oh, I should of said Uncle. Good luck with the restoration. There was a guy on ebay from Aus that made the fairing you're looking for. I haven't used him but I might have too down the road.

Cheers from Canada.
