Yes, I've so been trawling the web to find anything to support this.

Personally, I think it is inevitable that the 'Katana' name will be re-invented to a newer frame / engine.
You just need to look at what all the other manufacturers are coming out with in terms of Retro.

Compared to the other concept and rumour drawings and pic's that's the nicest one so far, looks a bit longer/lower than some of the others more in line with the real deal.

It would make sense, wouldn't it?

Apparently the frame is the top half of a standard tubular steel Kat frame
I'd be astounded if that was the case... I reckon there's maybe 8-12" of standard Kat frame in it, if that (the rusty bit above the rad looks like it *might* be that crappy stamped bit from a Katana or GSX frame) Certainly, the kat/GSX backbone would have to be chopped to make room for the GSXR downdraft induction. Head angle is miles steeper than stock too.

Yes Gamma, might be a case of "Granddad's axe" as to what remains of the Kat frame. Although the copy in the article says:

"Hercules’s regulations are completely free from the freedom that it is only iron frames and T.O.T like forms. Team KAGAYAMA’s Katana Racer is based on the original frame of GSX1100S Katana, and the exterior also faithfully defends the Katana Form. In many cases, it becomes a complete original frame when it becomes Hercules. However, this machine is an old motorcycle reform that protected the pedigree, with the upper side of the frame as the original katana."

Poring over photos of the Kagayama bike - there's a step change in diameter in the rear frame tubes where they come down from the "tank" (It's mostly airbox - the real tank is about where the Kat airbox was) to the swingarm pivot - I guess there may be a section from up around the original tank mounts that is from the original Kat frame... (you can see it in the out of focus bits of the pics I linked)
Early test pic of the bike - you can see the new tank hanging down between the side covers.

Well the rumour mill is in full drive ahead of 'Intermot' show in Germany.

Google Suzuki Katana Teaser and you'll get the idea.
Note there is now phase 1 & 2.
Given the time frames of the first two teasers, and the show commencing Oct 1, I estimate there could be another two teasers before the date.

Hmmmm... if that is indeed what's coming, doesn't look like the "newer" low and long version, looks more like a GSX-S1000 with different bodywork which, well, my 2 cents is just wrong... the Unicorn GSX1400 and Bandit recreations are much truer to original I reckon.

with you Pete. Lotto win and I would have a GSX1400 Katana for sure

Word is there is a total of 5 teasers, so three more to go.
I'm guessing one per week which based on the spacing of the first two would be something like this
4th Sept - Phase 1 ( released )
11th Sept - Phase 2 ( released )
18th Sept - Phase 3 ( TBA )
25th Sept - Phase 4 ( TBA )
2nd Oct - Phase 5 ( morning Intermot opens )

We may love it, we may hate it ( sounds like history repeating itself )!
Regardless, I'm excited to see what comes and how punters react.

It'll certainly be interesting that's for sure!
