RH Switchblock Assembly

G'day Kat Fans,

long time no post (sorry about that too busy riding lately!!!!). After a long Resto and troubleshooting process the Kat is running like a dream. Did my first track day just before Xmas - was so nice to blow some city folk on new bikes into teh weeds on a 40 year old!!!!

Anyhow, just jumped on to Mick Hone to procure a nice new set of Handlebar swicthblocks and noticed the RH one is now discontinued and the LH one 'limited' Im wondering if this is a temporary COVID thing or permanent......

Funny thing is, I cant understand how these really could differ between models as their function is simply on/off killswitch, lights (on/off) and starter button, however the following parts I have found in Australia and the UK so far include:
37200-49031 - 1100SZ (Ozzy) - discontinued (Mick Hone)
37200-49212 - 750SZ (Ozzy) - discontinued (Mick Hone)
37200-49541 - 750SD (UK) - discontinued (Robinsons Foundry)
37200-49550 - 750SD (Non-UK) - Available (Robinsons Foundry) ******UPDATE*******these are no longer available either :(

Anyone out there know why these would all have different part numbers? I cant understand why they would be different (especially the Ozzy 1100 and 750)?

Ive sent an email to Robinsons to enquire also (mostly to see if the available part will work) and will share any response in case others may be chasing this part.

Cheers
Rusty

Hey Rusty, crazy prices they are wanting (and getting) for these switchblocks. I guess it depends on how badly you want a genuine switchblock. With a bit of handy work you could just about make anything work - it really is only a switch (to kill the motor), starter switch and a headlight switch - most bikes of the 80s vintage have these. The tricky parts are the third phase wire from the generator, the throttle tube and the push-in terminal block. For my bike, I just wired in a second hand Suzuki SV RH switchblock using the original push-in terminal block, but I do have a different throttle assembly. I have an SV so was familiar and comfortable with these switches.

From a wiring diagram, it looks like the later SD model may have lost the light switch - at least on the diagram I have. Not sure if the terminal block is the same or not.

Looks like there is a genuine used one or two on ebay but they look pricey - but what isn't just now?

Good luck.

Rusty be careful with anything from the US (Katana GS model) as most do not have a independent headlight switch as headlight turns on with the key

I used an sv 650 RH switchblock, not the S model, it has capability for pull/push throttle cable setup for flatslides and also a hazard lights switch which I've hacked to use as a light switch, a bit of a fiddle but works, also, if you want a faster throttle, use a Kawasaki Z750 throttle tube, cheaper than an R1.
