Rear Shock question Pop up Kat

G'day....back again :)

No posts because it's taken 18 months or so to actually get the Kat from where it was to where I am. Anyway, she's here now and I've started in on the restoration. Apart from the usual headstock welded off centre to the left, and swing arm twists and misalignments, she's in really good condition...cosmetics aside....

One thing the manual doesn't cover is an exploded view, or any sort of even remotely detailed description of the rear shock. I can figure out how to pull it down to it's base components, no sweat. The immediate thing I see as a problem is the non-serviceability of the actual damper unit......and it looks like it's fairly idiosyncratic to the pop up, so no swapsies that I can envision....at least not if I want to keep the adjustable pre-load function/stay true to original.

riding around two up with the wife on 36 to 37 year old seals, low klm bike or not, is something I don't find very appealing.

I can get a NOS unit ( so the computer tells me) out of Japan for $700-ish USD.... which seems like a good idea...until the fact dawns that it's been sitting on a shelf for at least 30 years, and as such probably not really any better than the unit I have.


All this is a really long winded way of asking "Does anyone know where to get a unit that fits/who repairs them/mods/something....anything....."

I'll find the time , hopefully today, to start a build thread with pics if anyone's keen for a look at it. The build will probably be fairly glacial in its rate of progression though. I'm going to try and knock it over in 18 months to two years. It's in not too bad shape, as far as a starting pointt goes, and would look forward to any advice and guidance that is offered.

while on the subject of mono shock, I have a couple of sets and a swing arm that I got with my bike and have been hanging up in the wood shed since.now the shafts on the dampers are rusted and pitted though other parts might be of some use to anyone willing to pay for the posting and handling if they can use them as these are excess to my requirements.

It's not too bad (looking) when it comes to the rod and the like.....I'm just dubious in regards to the seal and oil condition. The fact that they're a non servicable item sucks.

White spring and red cannister looks like it might be a WP unit - well worth rebuilding!
