Question...

Dave, do you mean the bits either side that had the black covers over them ?

If so, they were smooth.

Cheers

Yep, the filter box had a ripple thingy going on where those drains holes are,

the airbox was smooth on sides if memory serves me right !!

mmmm, yes I have seen a few like that, just had a quick look through a few years parts diagrams on PartShark for various GS, GSX 750, 1100 but cannot match it.

Maybe a UK USA or Japanese one ?

Mine has got them Dave. 82 1100.Standard not sure but I am to believe they were. These bikes did have a lot of other model bits thrown on.
Shin or Frankie ?

Hi forum
From my point of view, can offer the below observations.
82' 750sz I had back in 84 a smooth Air Box ( the unit between crabs and fiter box ).
82' 750sz model recently acquired and considered original has smooth air box.
Purchased 81' 1100sz air box on ebay which had chrome covers on sides of air box, these covered "ribbed" sides on box.
Note: modified chrome covers to fit onto 750 air box ( used a hammer ).
If you check out my restoration entry you will see the differences in the changes

Did the "crabs" give you any trouble when you worked on the Kat and they must have restricted the air flow a bit?

Cheers.

Hi Dave, yes the Aussie 1982 SZ 1100S had the ripple airbox fitted O.E.M. out of the crate. Later replacement boxes may be different but the original boxes were ripple.
Glen, could mine have been off an earlier model ? Bought mid 82 out of box.

Definately had smooth sides as I remember almost leaving the metal covers off when I had it repainted as it looked the same anyway ?

Ok, need to change my previous testimony after checking through the family historical records.
82' 750 back in 84' had smooth sides on air box, but could have been metal covers ( so long ago can't be sure ).
Recently acquired 82' 750 has ripple sides on Airbox.

Recently purchased air box which was stated as being from an 1100 as wanted the chrome side covers. When removed the so called 1100 air box had smooth sides.

Found this info which may help if you can locate a part number stamped into the plastic.
