Progress!

Made a bit of progress over the break - more since the photos below - the head is back on, and it's just waiting on installation in the bike before the cams/clutch/sump/starter/alternator go back on (trying to keep it a little lighter for installation)...

If I'm lucky, I might get it started this weekend...

I'll have to take some pics and start a thread on the modified oil pickup with removable screen...

Definitely a good idea there mate - I know from when i put the donk back in it was not only quite heavy, but it only fits if you hold ya tongue to the left!!!! Good luck with it all mate and fingers crossed its ready to fire up soon!!!

Yeah, I figured leaving the valve cover and the sump off for fitment should make things a bunch easier.
Oh, FWIW, that stand the engine is sitting in has hinged legs at the back so the engine can be put in the stand upside down if needed...

Happy to finally see the pile of new bits from Mick hone getting smaller and smaller...

Mate that's great news! Be good to catch up and get out for a ride finally!

Yeah, hoping to get it lit before the end of the weekend - still got a bit to do though, and will probably be tight time-wise..

Ignition in 1...2...3... stand back every one this thing could get nasty a nice kinda nasty Cheers Murf.

Fail! Went to clean up my spare set of rockers and discovered patches of the hard chrome worn through... So I have to pick a set of rockers to go off hard facing.

Mick Hone to the rescue.
Set of new rockers is cheaper than hard facing the old ones, and they should be on my doorstep tomorrow... Going to feel a bit rough grinding the oil bumps down on brand new rockers!

Engine is in the frame, but epic failure - the exhaust cam I was planning to use is one I've had sitting wrapped up in a cupboard for 4 or more years, never unwrapped it except to check the stamping on the end... Came with a head i bought and was told it was an exhaust cam. Of course, turns out it's an exhaust cam. My old exhaust cam is fucked, not even useable for a weld and grind job because the bearing journals are scored. Sigh. Anyone got a 240-260° and .340-.350 lift exhaust cam kicking around in good shape that they might want to part with?

Clutch is sorted and in, clutch and starter sides buttoned up, tonight is knocking up a gasket for my custom oil pickup, then fiting up the sump and flushing the oil cooler - then we'll be oil tight (except for the cam cover being off). Might get the exhaust on too.

Hahahaha worst case you can always do part of the trip down to Kyogle or Casino like I do then turn back if you can't do the overnighter.
