Preferred Oil

G’Day all,
Just about to do an oil change on my GSX750S 1983, and I got to thinking, I was wondering what your oil preference is for your Kat?

I’ve use semi-synthetic Castrol GPS 10W-40.

Have used Penrite MC-4ST ( 10-50W ) since rebuild 5 years ago and have been very happy.

Plan to use same in 1100 'basket cas' once rebuilt

Same as John, been using it in the wee beastie for years and now use it in the Kat also. I wait until the 10L drums are on sale at Supercheap, and you can usually get them for about $66 or so which is much better value than the regular nearly $50 for 5L.
 
Penrite MC-4 10W40 100% PAO ESTER in the 1100 (changed annually), 9.8 TBN, high ZDDP, contains boron, shear stable. Penrite 10W40 Full-Synthetic (Group III) for the 650G-spot (changed every 10K and needs top ups).
 
Its just oil, no matter what you use keep it clean that’s all that matters...

I use diesel oil because
- no friction modifiers is fine for wet clutches
- mineral based semi synthetic blend so you get some of that high tech custom molecule wear prevention with out costing the earth.
- Has a Zinc additive to help keep the metal bits apart
- 15 - 50 suits QLD High temp range better than 40W and yet not too thick in our winter (bit more of that semi-syn advantage)
- Its a whole fleet oil, I buy it in drums and use it for the diesel Triton, and the muti-valve petrols like the wife’s Capiva the Son`s Laser because its cheaper that way.

So more than adequate and cheap.

It's very interesting. But I don't have the courage to try it.
 
I use Motul 5100 10w-40 Technosynthese Ester on my Katana's and also on my Suzuki Track Bikes. The Track Bikes had the oil and filter changed after 4 track days.

I use Bellray 15W-50 Semi synthetic blend in 750 and 1100 Kat,s, Penrite straight 50 for the Harley shovel and the pre unit Triumphs as no friction modifiers and Aussie made.
Yes I have an oddball mix in my shed but I enjoy a challenge.
