Pete and Phil, "Blihpo" Bike Accident Reefton Spur Victoria

Nick Kakasiouris

GSX250S Rider
Hi Everyone, I received a call yesterday from Pete while on a ride through the Reefton Spur with Phil both got taken out by a young driver racing his mate in another car. Both Pete and Phil were taken to hospital and both have been released and are very sore with bruising cuts etc. Phil's recently painted Katana is a complete write off and Pete's Katana is badly damaged. Frankie has also spoken to Pete and what ever help he needs to get his bike fixed we will help. I have yet to speak to Phil and will leave that until later in the day and i wish both Pete and Phil a speedy recovery and this is not what you want to hear.
Nick

Not good news at all.
wish you both a speedy recovery...and hope it dosnt hurt too much..

..Such bad news, Sue and I send our deepest condolences to you both and your families, wish for a speedy easy recovery.

I'm so sorry and sad to hear about this terrible accident. I wish both Pete & Phil a quick recovery.

That absolutely sux balls, but as Minus eluded to above the most important thing is both Phil and Pete are still with us and hopefully 100% again shortly. Always hard to replace the trusty steeds, but alas it can be done. Good to hear you east coasters are able to pitch in and give them a hand if/when they need!! A great group of fellas his site breeds!!!

All the best Pete and Phil - Im sure we will still be hearing tales from you on the site for years to come!
Cheers
Rusty

That is awful news. Get well soon Guys. I hope the knob in the car gets properly done by the authorities.

Hi all,

Firstly, thank you so much for your kind words and thoughts, and also thanks to Nick and Frankie for the phone calls this morning. The bond that these machines has created amongst us is truly quite amazing and I'm stoked to be part of it...

I'm feeling pretty bloody sore, can barely walk around, but no broken bones (apparently; not sure about my wrist) and Pete actually went to work today and was feeling ok this morning, but was starting feel quite down around lunch time today. I'm taking the week off; purely because I can.

As Nick said, my bike is a total loss financially, there are some goodies on there that we want to try and recover, and Pete's will run close to be financially written off in my opinion but I don't think he will let that happen.

Ironically, it was the slowest ride day we have had together. It was freezing cold, I mean below zero as we encountered ice on the road in places. As we were heading down to Marysville, it happened. I was the lead bike and we came around a slow left to be confronted with a BMW on my side of the road coming towards me at about 60km/h or so and within literally a split second, I hit him dead centre; bounced off the bonnet onto the road Pete followed in and got his right headlight and high sided over to the left. That vision and sound just wont leave me; very early in the process I guess.

I have loads of photos, but I wont put too many on here. For me anyway, they are a bit confronting.

As some of you know, I got my bike recently painted and seat done, chain, sprockets etc... all finished last weekend. So with my decent camera; this is what she looked like yesterday morning. What follows is the aftermath...

My dream has been taken away from me..

Looking at those pictures, I'd say you were lucky to get away with not having more injuries. No where to go either with the car positioned there and you guys coming round the left bend. Sorry about your bikes but glad you can tell the tale.

Bet you can still see it happening in slow motion...

Financial sense or not, dont let it take your dream away...
Bike is just the sum of its parts, and any part can be fixed or replaced.

Wow, glad you guys are ok, that's never a good thing to see for anybody let alone 2 Kats down. Thoughts are with you both and wishing you both a speedy recovery.

Been a bad week for Kats having seen that Tricky has had to let his 2 Kats go as well, at least they went to another member.

Cheers
Max

I know the most important thing is that you guys are relatively ok, bikes can be rebuilt or scavanged but I really hope the wanker in the car gets the book thrown at him, then his eyes taken out with a hot poker.....fucin arsehole !

Unfortunately, knowing the weak as piss legal system we have when it comes to looking after the victim I won't be putting any money on it happening.

I looked at the pics, and all I could think was this is a crime scene and just how lucky you guys are. You called it confronting and its obvious why you did. I had a visceral reaction to just looking at the photos. I really feel for you guys having been a part of that horrible scene and now having to deal with the aftermath. "Kia kaha" as they say over here "stay strong".

So good to hear that you two are okish. Never give up on your dreams mate they take a battering and time frames slip a bit with a mess like this, do not let a nanosecond of stupidity on that young fellas part keep you off your bike for any longer than it takes to sort it out .sod the little s##t. All the best to you both Donga.

You guys are so lucky to walk away from that!! Devastating!! I hope the little shit gets locked up and they throw away the key.

Gentleman, May I offer my sincere condolences on the damages to your loved ones.... I am so very happy to hear that you both survived the incident. I wish you both a speedy recovery and I hope that the mental effect that this must have on you both is as minimal as possible. take care fellow katters and Get well!!

Best wishes to you both. No doubt today would be a bit stiff and sore - but good to hear from Peter directly that you both are basically ok.

You guys are the backbone of KA Vic and Iron Butt riding - so I look forward to seeing you both on the road again soon.
