Old member returning.

Hi all.
It's been a while since I have been on this sites.
I have a 1982 homogutaled Katana 1100 which I started restoring 8 years ago, which got pushed aside until now.
Retired at Xmas and now it's my time out project.
I have ordered 200+ parts from Mick Hone and some others from overseas.
Just opened electro plate kit today.
Hoping to have some fun in the next few months. I'm not mechanical so will be a learning curve. So today I'm blowing off the dust.
I can't ride as I had an accident but would like to catch up with the group . I'm on the Gold Coast if anyone is interested.

Hi Paul. Welcome. Fun times ahead.

There is an active Katana community on Brisbane Northside.
Are you able to still drive? If so and you have some time to drive up to the Northside we can arrange a Katchup.

Hey Drillbit
sounds great. I have no problems getting around. Had a work accident and damaged my back. Can't ride at this stage so I sold my bikes except my kat. Hoping to ride when built in about 12 months. Let me know when. I'm happy to drive.
Cheers

Have you had a look at Bazza's GSX post?

Lots of overlap with Kat parts.

We ride every Sat leaving 07h00 in summer and 08h00 in winter. Meeting place is IGA Cashmere Ira Buckby St.

In the short term there is also a Jabber run for Cafe racers etc - Shorncliffe (Elvy's Cafe) - last Sat of every month. Less of a drive and a scenic one at that.

I will have a look at Bazza
When you do your Sat mornin, do you have breakfast or wait for arrivals and then choof of on the ride. Do you all have time for a chat? I drive a landcruiser set up for camping so it's not quick in the hills. If you stop for lunch somewhere I could bee line for that and meet you there again.

The start is a chin wag whilst we wait and decide where to go.

Normally we go to Dayboro or Mt Mee - which is about 40 mins straight by car. We go long way round and take about an hour.

The Jabber run last Sat if each month is more predictable as we always end up at Elvy's Cafe (Shorncliffe)for breakfast circa 07h30. That's probably easier.

Scorncliff sounds more relaxed and alow a bit more time . Will stay in touch. I just purchased a set of wire wheels stamped 82 would you know if the rear drum sprocket mount from my 82 alloy rim fits the ss rims?
It would save me pulling them apart to find out, which I don't want to do at the moment.

It should fit.

Depending on which rear hub you have, you may need a 5mm spacer for the rotor. Easily done - just cut down an old sprocket.

Do you have the tin cone?

I have the cup/ drum from the alloy wheels and a sprocket. It will be a while before I get to the wheels. I'm about to source parts to wbuild a vapour blaster and I want to lace the wheels myself. So they may sit in the corner for a couple of months.
Thanks for your help.
I'll give my Gsx a look. Thanks

Please feel free to start a new rebuild thread.

It'll be a great record and source of reference for yourself and others.

If you re-spoke with stainless steel you'll need to go a gauge thicker than stock, stock diameter in SS have a habit of breaking.

What's better steel or stainless spokes. I think they have steel on now I was going to clean them up and zinc plate them but haven't had a good look at their condition yet.
I just got a zinc plating kit which I need to set up. That will be a learning curve as well. Should be fun.

With zinc plating the plating comes off with regular polishing.
With stainless you literally just wipe the spokes. All my spoke wheel bikes have stainless.

Welcome back Paul! Looks like you've got a lot of fun ahead of you, keep us up to date with how you go for sure and maybe see you at Elvy's on a Saturday morning. Let us know if you're coming as I normally take the 450 rather than the Kat when we head over there.

Had a half hour spare so had a play.
Hub from my alloy wheels that came with the Kat seem to fit the wire wheels OK or is it supposed to sit proud?
will go SS spokes when I lace.20260203_170044.jpg
