Coverage of the 1981 New Zealand Castrol 6 Hour production race. Features Dave and the late Neville Hiscock on the E27 Katana 1100SXZ vs. Mal 'Wally' Campbell on the Honda CB1100R. Rare footage of the "Wire-Wheel Katana" as Kiwi's colloquially refer to them, doing what they were built to do.

Awesome for a lazy day in the office - thanks

No problem Paul. Katana production racing vids from back in the day are as rare as unicorn turds. So when you stumble across one, you share. I remember watching this very Kat (Wellington Motocycles) being raced at Pukekohe in a 3 hour production endurance race in about 1982.

The comedy fuel spill and clean up is good value too.

Yeah, things were a little bit different back then. There is a photo that does the rounds taken at the 1982 Castrol 6 Hour here in Oz and there are blokes standing around bikes in pit-lane wearing thongs, shorts and tee shirts. Safety first eh? They were safety thongs so no probs there. Rools, wee don need nor stinkin' rools!

What a crap video, the Hooonda won!

I kid... hahaha... awesome stuff cheers Darryl!

I like at just after the 5 minute mark where they're throwing stuff on the oil and race is still going on... would've been a red flag and restart these days.

Yes an Aussie on a Hoonda winning our 6-hour, went down like a cup of cold vom over here. Apart from with Kiwi Honda riders (.... I call them riders, meh!). You do get to see a smashed up CB (rider unhurt). The cause was probably another Honda dropping its guts. Wasn't cement dust amazing stuff? Apparently liberal applications of the stuff fixed pretty much anything.
