Hi. A quick intro Im an older ex rider in the process of putting an old project back on the road. The aim is to participate with a bunch of supposedly like minded old farts for casual rides around the Port Macquarie area where I live. I need some advice on freeing the cup in the rear brake master cylinder or a replacement Cheers Bear.PS The bike is a 750 Pop up 84 model.

Welcome aboard mate - you'll be surprised where Katana riders 'pop-up' mate. Have the earlier 750, but I would also assume its teh same with later models - most oparts can still be bought brand new through suzuki dealers (if it buggered that is) - many crew here use Mick Hone for their parts - cheap and efficient service.

Theres also alot of pop-up owners (or Darksides as there affectionately known as here due to the headlight often failing to pop-up and leaving one in the dark!!!) - hopefully they can be of further asisstance!! All the best with locating some riding buddies and stay upright!!

Cheers
Rusty

Hi and welcome to Katland. There are a few Kat owners around the Port and Macksville area so teaming up with some other Kat types shouldn't be a drama.

Cheers.

Welcome bear.
Try letting the caliper sit with some WD40 in it for a bit. Jam the free pistons in and stuff some rags between the opposing sides. Then use compressed air in one of the ports to pop the seized one out.
Don't put your fingers between them as they come out with some force.

Hope you enjoy the group.
Ben.

hi Bear, and welcome.
with brakes i havent messed around and bought brand new master cylinders and rebiuilt the calipers with brand new parts following a thorough clean.
Mike Hone has been good to me also, but i see they are out of stock ( normally $ 174 )
most of my parts howerver have come from Consolidated Motorcycles Spares ( CMS ) in Netherlands, but they also seem out ( normlly $113 Euro ).

one trick i have learned is to do a google search by the original part number, in this case 69600-31300 and start checking out who has stock. partzilla seems always have a hit, but ends up none-in-stock.
as for getting the old cup set out, if it is a resto, connect the outlet of the back master to a brake line off of the front master and slowly pull the lever. should be able to push the assembly out even with air in the lines :)

I have an old brake line that i have cut the bango fitting off one end and use compressed air or for real stubborn ones i use a bolt to blank off where the hose goes and put a grease nipple in the bleeder hole and pump away messy but effective welcome to the KAT House Cheers Murf.

Welcome Bear, to the kat house as I am only a new member, I up in Qld
