New Sydney member

Thanks admin for accepting my membership ... hopefully I'll be able to contribute to the club in some way.

Me ... name's Peter, a 71 year old retired toolmaker from Picnic Point in southern Sydney. Ex solo and sidecar racer who still enjoys the odd track day but a lot slower these days. Recently widowed with three sons and five grandkids, a blue cattle dog and my daily rider, a GSX1400.

Although I've always loved the looks of the Katana it's taken me until now to own one. It's a 1981 GSX1100S with 68k on the clock which as we all know in big Suzuki terms is only just run in. I intend restoring the Katana to something resembling OEM but the seat will need some mods as these old knees don't bend like they used to. Once finished I'll put it on club rego to be used on club runs and rallies.

Hi Pete welcome to the Kat house, nice bike yes I agree they are bit tough on the knees and back but they are a great ride. Enjoy!!

Hi Peter and welcome to the Forum. We have a few members in and around Sydney and some of them will be along soon to say hi. Is your new just run in Kat going to be on the road by September this year? We have our annual Katana run to Nambucca Heads each year and if you are up for it you are very welcome to come along.

Cheers,
Glen.

Hi Peter and welcome. Yes the knees and Katana's.......... Panadol Forte does help, a bit. Great looking bike. There is a few Katana riders with ACD's.

Hopefully catch up one day

Tom

Hi Peter,Welcome and don't be shy.
As Glen mentioned we do an annual run up north to meet up with our Northern brothers and sisters.
Great weekend and too good to miss.
Plenty of info on here as well as good folk.

Hi Peter
Welcome to the Clowder. Nice clean looking kat but applaud your desire to get it to OEM. Just received the right hand exhaust for my '82 750 making a now a full original black chrome unobtainium system.
Im up on Northern Beaches and there is a good bunch of fellow Kat owners prowling around southern, western and north Sydney.

As Glen ( Shin-Ken ) mentioned there is the annual State Of Origin meet in September. If your interested check the events section. I'll be looking to ride up on the Friday, some will ride on the Saturday and a couple of the boys are tacking vans / trailers for their bikes.

Hope to meet up soon and am sure you'll get lots of advise, insperation and interest..

Good introduction Peter.

Cheers
Stuart

Thanks for the welcome guys ... much appreciated.

Nambucca Heads is a definite in September. Hopefully the Kat will be finished by then although it might be a trailer queen if I can't get the riding position right.

As I said in my intro Stuart ... something resembling OEM. I looked at the twin cans on Wemoto in black chrome but money being a bit tight and having a number of new GSX1400 cans lying around I did a trial fit. OK so they're slightly larger in diameter but they do look good on the bike and it looks like the centre stand can be retained. I've also got a set of extractors to cut up as header pipes so a bit of welding, a clean up, chrome and I'm ready to go.

Welcome Peter - what a great intro!

The Blues need all the support they can get - so really hope to be able to meet you at the SoO.

Hi Peter
If you are looking for any OEM parts, remember the following.
1: Mick Hone in Melbourne is the first choice. Mick gives forum members 5% discount so be sure to note your forum name if ordering.
2: CMSNL.com in Netherlands also has been good for me. The prices are on par with Mick Hone, but be sure to make orders of good quantity. Parts come UPS in about 4 days, but you need to weigh up freight V's parts cost.
3: classic suzuk parts NL also an option.
4: be very, very wary of anything on eBay unless it's a) not available from above, b) cheaper than above, c) not available from members on the forum or d) unobtainable!

Just my views

Cheers
