New Member - Greetings from the Mornington Peninsula

Greetings from the Mornington Peninsula 
I’ve wanted a Kat for many years and about a month ago I was finally able to get my hands on a GSX1100s 1981-82 Katana.
The good news was the bike was being used as a daily commuter, the bad news, the condition was showing its age.
I have been a bike enthusiast for many years; in fact, my wife loves it when I go for a ride as I always come home with a smile from ear to ear. But it’s not just about the riding; I love the fellowship and friendships of like-minded people.
The plan is to restore the bike back to its original condition over the next six months – wish me luck!
If anyone is interested, I would be more than happy to post regular photos of the restoration
Cheers Bil

Hi Bil, thanks for your intro. Well done on grabbing a Kat and she looks pretty good in the photo and is certainly in better shape than many other commuter Kats! As you will soon discover we are very keen to follow restoration and projects so pile on the posts with lots of photos as well. Have sent you a P.M. To open a P.M. just click on the "Notifications" text at the top right of the screen.

Cheers,
Glen.

Welcome Bil - as a new member myself, I know you'll find everyone here very friendly and helpful.

Welcome bill
For a daily commute she looks in good nick by the pics.
As for the resto, six months is enthusiastic. My total strip down and rebuild took 18 months and I wish I'd taken 24, and that was with nothing done to the engine.
Always someting you wish you spent more time on!

Please keep the photo's coming, and suggest you take reference pics as you go so the rebuild goes smoothly.
If you don't have a manual, a few of us have electronic copies and are happy to share.

Cheers
Stuart

Hey Bill, welcome! Nice score and she certainly is tidy for a daily rider! Great starting point for a resto for sure.

Yes, please most definitely keep us updated with pic's and progress, definitely keen to follow along.

I'm with Tomcat on the timing... unless you have a bunch of time and cash 6 months is very enthusiastic! Admittedly I have a fair bit more on my plate than you will, but my optimistic 18 months has currently hit 2.5 years and will easily pass the 3 year mark...

If noone's pointed you in the right direction yet, use Mick Hone for your genuine parts. Excellent service, very competitive pricing, they know Kats inside out, and if you tell them you're on the forum you'll get a bonus 5% discount which goes a long way too.

Hi Stuart, yeah I think your spot about the 6 months, its probably more like 18 months. The good news is my best mate who has extensive experience in bike restoration is working side by side with me.

Thank you for your kind offer on the manuals, I might take you up on that!

Have an awesome day!
Cheers, Bill

Hi Pete,
Yeah, I agree, 6 months is overly ambitious… Think you guys are spot on about 18+ months. Let's see how we get in 6 months.

Thanks for the heads up about Mick Hone, the boys out there are certainly onto it. Their customer service (Steve) is exceptional!

Good stuff Bill, sounds like you're all sorted especially with your mate! Bonus!

Hi Bill,
Welcome!

I live at Phillip Island so am sort of fairly close to you. I have 2 x 1100 Katanas, well actually 3 at the moment. The one I am rebuilding for my son is still here awaiting motor completion then it can go back together. So if you need to see a complete Kat that is 'local' to help with your rebuild, just let me know.

Cheers
Rob
