New Kat

Hey guys,
After searching high and low and having a look at one Kat in Sydney, I found a nice one in Melbourne. I am buying it sight unseen which I have never done before. However, after viewing many photos, I am more than happy with her. She's getting picked up next week and coming to me the week after. I'll post some photos when she arrives.
One question I have just in general. What's the go with the front mudflap? Were these standard on all 1000 & 1100 Katanas?

My understanding is that it was a standard fittment, but may have only been an Aust requirement.

I agree, bought brand new with one. Looks like a cat with a fat lip. First thing l took off. Might still have it.

yep, standard on aussie models.

Pretty sure MH still have them available if needed.

Yes, the front mud flap was only fitted to Australian SZ Kats. In 1981/82 the Kat front guard did not comply with ADR and to comply with ADR, rather than redesign the guard for Australia Suzuki just added the mud flap to meet ADR. ADR front guard spec were amended and from the SD onwards the mud flap was deleted from Australian Kats.

Thanks for the info. Mine isn't the early model so don't need one. Not really a fan.

Most Kats have had them removed and they aren't needed to meet ADR. Handy to have a new one in the spares box for SZ owners just in case one day the full OEM look is something they want to have. Yeah, the mud flap isn't a great look but it is a unique feature for the Australian Delivered SZ Kat and for a full on rivet counter level resto something to consider.
