The bike has been in storage for a couple of years. About 80% complete. Looking at the handling issues with the 16 inch front wheel.?Can you advise what options are available and the proes and cons of a change to either 17 or 18 inch Thanks

Hi Steve welcome aboard. There will be a solution on this site somewhere. Be good to see another bike back on the road. Need any help just holler there are a few of us in Sydney.

Hi John,First kat i have worked on.. The guys i have been chatting with said with a 16 inch wheel that the bike dives into corners and a larger diameter wheel on the front would help?? I am nearly 60 and have ridden mostly Ducati`s so just looking for some advice Thanks for any imput

At lot of bollocks has been written and spoken about 16 inch wheels, ever since the 80s.
Yes they can change direction quicker that was the whole idea, for racing.
But the overall geometry of the front end has to be considered, suzuki built in a larger trail figures (caster)which makes it stable, some other brands didnt. Popup dosnt wobble or head shake unlike some. (thinking here a certain VFR cant remember which one) and on the other hand any modern bike turns quicker anyways.
Try it first before you change...

Hi Steve....You can beat an egg but you can't beataroot. :D

lol, someone had to say it :)

Welcome Steve, you'll see a difference in 'throwing' the Kat into a corner compared to most Duke's, me mate on his SD, way back when, could do impossible things round a bend, I had no chance on my Kat.

Look forward to see how you go.

Welcome to the Kat House Steve and my '83 750, it has a 16 inch front and i have had the suspension front and rear done and bearings etc and find the handling great. In saying that 16 inch do not like bumpy roads but the bike is a good ride and in this forum we can help you find tyres etc. If you go bigger front rim you will need to change your front guard and also get your speedo re-calibrated.

Welcome Steve, another Darkside is always welcome.
As someone who has kats with 19" front wheels and a couple of pop up kats with 16", I always find the 16 seems more "unstable - (twitchy)" than the 19, but that feeling goes after a few kms and then its all fine. The 19 when I get back on then feels slow and lumbering, again only until I adjust again, I agree with John that there isn't anything wrong with the 16" once you get used to the feel, it is different, but there is nothing wrong with it, just takes some time, especially if you have spent a lot of time on another bike. My 5 cents worth anyway, Cheers and welcome again

Thanks for all your advice.. Will get it running and see how it feels Cheers

Good idea, then make an informed decision based on your thoughts and experience. I think you'll get used to it and enjoy it as it is. Cheers Ian
