Yesterday was Mother's day and my first son's 15th B-day. The weather was funny. Rain in the morning followed by sunshine and heat then rain again. I was feeling very claustrophobic being in the house with the whole family.Well, since I'm on 5th day of my vacation and I haven't ridden my bike, my wife gives me the green light to go for a spin on beloved Katarina before we go out for dinner. This is the longest ride I've done this year since I just brought her out from her winter sleep. She's running strong no problems. I'm feeling alive. What could be better. I know. How about an ice cream and then back home for dinner out.
Well, after a nice strawberry ice cream and a couple of pics of my surroundings it's time to leave. Ugh, what's up? Bike won't start. I know we're having a good time and everything but it's going to start raining again and we're 80Km from home. Well, a quick call to CAA to send someone over to boost the bike. That will be 45-60 minutes.
Oh well. At least they're coming. When the guy shows up, the battery doesn't want to hold a charge. Looks like I need a tow. He radios his dispatch to send a flatbed truck. It should be about 60-90 minutes. It's now starting to rain.
Two hours later after the rain, the driver shows up. I'm tired, cold, wet and all freaked out about my bike and missing my kids birthday dinner. The driver doesn't instill any confidence, so I ask him if he's towed a bike before. He answers "yes". Did you ever lose any? "Yes". WFT
I proceed to tie the bike up. I did not want to take any chances with this guy strapping up my bike. He brings out four brand new straps and we tie her up. I don't like this. :? I'm looking over my shoulder the whole ride home. It's dark out and I can't see shit with my prescription sunglasses.
We travel about 30km and I notice the front wheel has turned. Oh shit.
Stop the truck. One of the NEW straps broke when we hit a bump in the road.
We pieced two broken straps together and continued down the road. I don't like this but I'm not too far from home now. Another 30Km away we hit another bump. Stop the truck the front wheel turned again.
Looks like the bike moved with that bump. The driver said "Hey, ya know what? I can tie the front tire to the truck with this cable." WHAT! (Why didn't we do that from the start.)
I made sure there was the exact amount of tension on that wheel. I didn't what the next pothole ripping out my front end.
Twenty minutes later we're home. We get Katarina off the flatbed and I get her back into the garage. I hook up the battery charger and hope for the best.
Twelve hours later still won't start. Off to Interstate I go. Hopefully a new battery will resolve my problem. Wish me luck.
I hope everyone else had a better mother's day.
