Hi Guys, I saw on a auction site a 1985 1100 Katana. Would this be a SF model ? I always thought 1984 SE was the last original Kat produced.

Yeah SF ('85) was the latest in that series... but there was the SBE in '87 plus the JDM models kept going to... 2000 somewhere I think?
 
My bike is an '85 GSX1100 SE (which looked just like that one on Burn's Auction... very CHEAP one on Burn's if it really was like that!)- the 1100's were still SE.
I'm the second owner, had it since 1992, so I've got the numbers and build month somewhere nearby.
The auction pics included a (5 or 7)/85 Australian Compliance plate but I can no longer access them

I have a 83 SD , so I thought 84 would be SE and 85 would be SF but I see 85's as SE models. 1985 was the last of the original 1100's so maybe Suzuki just decided to keep the designation ? Dunno. Maybe shin-ken can tell us.

I wonder if that's because people are using the years on compliance plates as the model year, as that's not all that accurate? A late '82 will be an SD along with an early '83 and so forth. So, a late '83 will be an SE...

For example, I know my GS450 is an EZ model, and the manufacturing date is 10/81, but it's most definitely not an EX ('81 model year).
 
The 1983 was SD, then there was a minor paint style update for 1984 SE which carried on until the end in 1985 (SD had narrower colour strip down the tank, at least the blue ones did... I have not seen a blue SE, which doesn't mean there aren't any) but there wasn't an "annual' model designation change then (like there is now where the year code becomes the suffix)
The 750 PopUp did get a designation change, though - I've always considered them SF, but when looking for parts most sources seem to call them S3!
As if this makes anything clearer!!

I've definitely seen references to popups as SF, so maybe that's where I'm confused, just assuming the 1100s had the same model year designation?

Nothing would surprise me less than inconsistency in model year designation...
