No, not the ripped off kind of missing. Out riding recently and got hammered with heavy rain on the way home, then the Kat started missing, not enough to stop the show. Checked the connections and plug leads and found two of the plug lead boots were damaged. No spare lead boots in the shed so I am hoping heat-shrink will do the job, it can't be any worse.

Very tidy Glen, and with the heat in and around that area, they should keep shrinking :D

Cheers

Glen,
Have you checked the temperture rating of the tube?
if its the low temp sort (shrinks <100c) I predicit it will soften or even melt each time engine is hot, and might not last so long.
However if its hi temp (>200c) will probably work better than the boot, and last longer.
You should be able to look up the data sheet for the brand you used on the net (if it not printed on it)

Cheers John

Glen when your Kat went missing, did you try "Here kitty kitty"....that's what my sisters used to do.....

Hi John, thanks for the tip mate. Not sure what the temp rating is for the shrink I had in the shed. I'll chase up the +200c tube and swap it over next time the tank is off, unless after todays ride the shrink looks like burnt shriveled up banana peels.

Cheers.

If it was a Hoon-da I'd call it that for sure, but being a Kat it was more like "not far to go now Honey, just keep firing on the other three pots until we get home and I'll buy you something blingy to make it all better".

Hahahahaha you know that's so true...

When I put the stock coils back on the wee beastie I tracked down some NGK plug caps from Repco, I think around $6 each from memory but I could be wrong as that was years ago... the stock caps were a bit dodgy and the NGK ones have been good since.

Yeah Pete, the insulators are pretty old now so maybe that's why the boots were starting to split, I'll grab a new set of insulators and boots for the Kat soon. After the ride yesterday (180km) the shrink still looks good so maybe it is the 200C plus type tube?

Cheers.

Hope you checked inside where the lead screws onto plug first, this is what mine looked like before replacing them.spark plugs.jpg
