Mirror mirror on my Kat

Hi guys. Just stumbled across these mirrors today and was wondering if these are the correct replicas for the 82-83 Kats. These are made by Napoleon. The mirrors are the exact same size as on my pop up but the stems are short. That's why I was thinking they are for the earlier Kat. Any thoughts.

They sure look similar to the SZ/SD mirrors in shape Ken. The main thing with aftermarket mirrors is if they buzz. Fuzzy mirrors make it hard to spot certain road users sneaking up behind you........................

Back in 84' a friend kindly dropped my bike ( sitting on it with the engine Off :evil: ) and snapped one of the original mirrors which had a long stem.

Went to local dealer and all he had on hand was aftermarket ones which were a short stem, & cheaper.

The ones you show are same as I have put on current kat, and yes they can vibrate.
You need either a special thin walled 10mm socket, or like my local mechanic grind a socket down so that it just fits into where the tightening nut is.

I find them OK so long as you keep your elbows in

I thought everything behind me was fuzzy because I was moving too fast. Just a little short from time travel speed.

That simple mirror arm was not fitted to Kats.


All original Kat mirrors have arms with pivoting 'elbows':

This allows the mirror itself to be horizontal while mounted on Kat clip-on 'bars, which gives you the best possible view, width-wise, of what's behind you, and it gets the mirror out a bit wider.

Those mirrors you posted will work ok, but I doubt you'll ever get them horizontal, and you'll likely get a great view of your shoulder and not much else...
If your OCD doesn't play up, like mine does, then go for it.

As an aside, DR650 mirrors have the correct elbow, and AFAIK are still plentiful and available.

I got the same and they are find either horizontaly or on a diagonal ,cheers.
