Legal or what ?

 Now for those of us (in QLD at least) that have been pinged for the exhaust not exiting past the rear axle? and the rear mudguard ? not being long/low enough COP A LOOK AT THIS!!!
.Is this how they register them or do they modify them then remove the "to make it pass ADR/roadworthy modifications "
.OR have the rules changed (for the better!)

.PS...I THINK THE REGULATIONS ACTUALLY REFER TO PAST THE REAR PEGS.

Hey Ian they had a huge blitz last week on all our fun roads with RBT, Drug Bus and road worthy checks and cars also and more HP cars than ever. On the old Pacific Hwy they were looking at noise so i don't know how the buyer of this MV will go once he gets it regoed.
Nick:confused:

I have it on good authority that in Qld that haven't got a clue what is and isn't legal at the moment after a Brisbane based solicitor wrote a paper outlining all the contradictions, inconsistencies, and ambiguity in the current legislation regarding motorcycle exhausts. The focus was noise but also mentioned other aspects such as placement etc.

A lot of the current exhaust legislation is actually aimed at cars not motorcycles... helpful!

I know for a fact a blitz on motorcycle exhausts was cancelled in February due to the release of this paper.

So, time will tell what the end result is... but a clear idea of what is/isn't legal for a motorcycle would be a damn good idea.

I believe in WA they do the same as NSW from time to time but mainly targeting cars.

The exhaust on my Kat finishes approximately 60mm before the axle and passed roadworthy check last August without an issue.

Mine is about the same as yours TJ and passed its registration road test without comment - the bloke was pretty excited though cos he got to take it around the block!!!!

By the way - I dont care about the rules but Id most certainly have that F3 in the shed next to my Kat to keep it company - what a beauty! I slightly prefer this one though - http://www.mvagusta.com/en/motorcycles/brutale-800-rr/

Yeah, the guy who inspected mine was beaming when he came back after the test ride. He also inspected the GS1000S T the same day which he really like but kept on talking about the Kat.

I really like the F3. But would happily take either if it was give to me. Always have had a soft spot for and MV.

When I got mine rego'd after the test ride the inspector got off the bike and said " How uncomfortable ... that's the worst bike I've ridden"
fair enough i thought. That didn't stop another younger inspector come out and sit on it (without asking) almost making brrrrmm brrrrmm noises....Idiot.
Any suggestions on what 4:1 system is available that's ADR compliant ?? I like the F3, F4 and brutale 800 ... just need lotto and a bigger shed.

Hey Nige, I thought that was the norm, my inspector went over the bike checking front and rear tyre spec's, exhaust and mudguard.
I operated all electrics as he called them out from their checklist while he stood near by. Then the test ride to check steering, brakes and handling.

The Chief.

Ive had a few bikes needing a blue slip (vehicles that have been bought back into the fold/rego'd ) and they go over vin numbers ect but never measuring this and that or sound checks.

Nige

.....never had anyone ride any of my GSX's or Kat's that I have rego'd here in Qld - ........but they may have spotted the "push/pull" throttles.............

I cant believe the inspectors ride your bikes.? Never heard of that one before.

Nige

The only bike that has not been ridden when taken over the "pits" (this was way back in the 80's) was my Z900 drag bike. I do remember the inspector asked me how much steel wool was stuffed in the muffler......... Every other bike has been ridden.

Technically they're supposed to test ride them here in Qld when getting a safety certificate done, but doesn't always happen.

When I got the wee beastie inspected by Brian Harper (top bloke, highly recommended), he actually said to me he wouldn't take it for a test ride because he could see all the work I put into it and he didn't want to take the first ride away from me. I thought that was pretty cool...

Hey Nige we had a notice placed on one of our Volvo prime movers and after repairs i took the Volvo to Silverwater for inspection for the compressor and air gauge to be checked and past. Let's just say the "Inspector struggled to climb up into the cabin".
As for test riding our bikes, i have never seen that in N.S.W.
