Kat fuel

Hi
I am just after some recommendations, of what fuel I should put in the Kat. 91,95,98 ron ?

Should i put any type of lead replacement additive ,, Or is it not required ?

Cheers Simon

Hi Simon, no need for lead additive as the Kat engines were designed to run on un-leaded fuel. My Kat with stock compression runs well on 91, 95 and 98 so it's usually price that dictates what go go juice is used.

Cheers.

Thanks for the info.
My failing old age brain , just couldn't remember.

I dropped the float bowls off the carbs last break. 2 carbs had this greenish type sticky liquid in them , that sort of smelt like fuel.
After i put new in fuel and cleaned the bowls. The Kat was only really running on cylinder 2 and 4.

once the parts arrive from Mick Hone. I will strip the carbs and give them a good clean.

Cheers Simon

Just don't use that E10 crap... ethanol is a no go for our old beasts!

I normally run my pop-up on 91, sometimes 98 depending on price and how I feel, I've used E10 but only if I know that I will be using at least a tankful on the day, it runs ok on it but it will swell the rubbers if left in the tank too long.

Hi Simon,

Take a good look at all the brass jets needles and screws with a magnifying glass. The green tinge is likely to be from brass oxidisation so it's likely that a jet or two is corroded. Corroded jet orifices mean it won't meter correctly no matter how clean you get them. After cleaning and rebuilding my Kat's VM Mikunis after a 20+ year storage, It took a year to sort out them out due to not spotting corroded needle jets. Once these were replaced the pilot air and fuel mixture screws (the bastards have both) actually made meaningful adjustments. Drove me mad until the possible problem was pointed out to me by an old race mechanic.

If you have a stock-ish engine, 95-98 is overkill (waste of money) and will run just fine on 91, my kat runs 11.003 at willowbank on 91 (was too highly geared to launch properly...)

I would say you are on the money about the greenish fluid.
the pilot jet ,needle jet and Main Jet , seem to be no longer available through Suzuki.I could only get the needle and seat through Suxuki.
I may try and see if Mikunioz has them. or if anyone has another suggestion

Simon

cheers.
I contacted Mick Hone today, Have all the needles and jets on there way. the only thing on back order is the pilot jets
