Kat for sale. Maybe.

With the impending arrival of the GS, it now behooves me to review my bike registration responsibilities and balance them out against my income...

So, it is with a heavy heart that I may have to consider moving one of my Kats on...
I'm thinking that there is still a robust seller's market for Kats at the moment, especially for good, solid bikes that can be ridden or that might make a good base for a resto.

Is this the general consensus?

I know it's a bit like how long is a piece of string, but for those that have seen my bike, what price bracket might be sensible to slot it into on the open market at the moment?
I mean, I don't want to try to gouge someone, but neither do I want to give it away...

Throw some ideas at me - all considered even those that would have me hold on to it.

There is a 'special' rego class up here, but it isn't like the arrangement in VIC and NSW as it's much more expensive with similar (restrictive) conditions.

Single-seat rego is available, costs half dual-seat, and works out at about $240 a year, pink slip and all.
You can even pay it six-monthly...

However, I have to keep one or two bikes dual-seat for those occasions when I pillion, so that doubles the cost per year for a couple of bikes.

I could just de-register the Kat and put it into storage, but space for bikes is also an issue in my shed.

The discount for club rego in Qld is pretty miserly and it comes with a pile of restrictions on use (unlike the more sensible Vic system).
Now mate are we talking 1100 or 750? Excuse my ignorance........ And how patient do you want to be? People on this webste will hate me for suggesting this but any 1100 that is in good nick and reasonably unbuggered with I'd start at $10K minimum and up - 750 start around $7,500. And the way the market has evolved give youself bonus bucks for Oz delivered and any other original features like lights from the fairing and not below (like what happens with aftermarket nose cowls like mine), sharks fins, front disks on the right way (thanks Derek) and tool kit etc. As Kats have moved into that shit pit called "collector bikes" you can get a premium for the original stuff with the bike. Of course mate this is all IMHO.
Good luck with the sale

Ta Paul - good advice in there.

The bike I'd sell is an 1100, the one that I rode to the national gathering a few years back (it won the 'most original' trophy).

It's a good, straight, original Oz-delivered bike.

There's no glaring mechanical issues, tank has been repainted but it's very good, all of the chassis parts are in very good, serviceable order, however it's done plenty of km - over 100k, so while it's running well and not using oil it could likely do with a freshen up.
I'd consider selling it with stock alloy wheels, a good 4-1 exhaust (Formula 1), original seat, and draped in good (but not pristine) fairing and frame parts - I do want to keep my very good parts for my SXZ Kat which is either missing those parts or has fairly poor versions.

It would suit someone wanting to either ride a bike straight away that will eventually need refreshing, or it would form an excellent base for a resto.
I won't be able to sell it with an original toolkit etc.

I'd reckon 10 gorillas might be a little high, although given the requisite 'criteria' to cross into five-figures, it may qualify?

Oh, and the front discs and fins are on the right way around...

Fins and rotors on the right way! Come on Paul that puts it up in value compared to some of the pretenders we've seen for sale recently. Using your description of the Kat as a guide I think you are close to the money at 8 1/2 big ones including the premium for being an Oz delivered Kat. The last few batches of JDM 1100 Kats with km's in the 20,000 - 30,000 range having been selling for $6,500 - $8,000 and some of them have had some pretty sexy aftermarket bolt-on bits as a bonus. I know it's apples and oranges with JDM vs Oz plated but that's the main game right now with more JDM 1100 Kats being imported here for sale than the number of Oz plated models up for sale. Good luck with the sale and hopefully someone here buys it. Is it restricted to QLD buyers only? Can't have the Blues taking another Kat off us just to bump up the numbers for S.O.O. in August.

Cheers.

Now I'm not sure I agree with the big G here because any Kat buyer outside of this forum may not want your sexy aftermarket goodies. I'd be asking $10.5 negotiable. If Spinelli Calssics can put a buggered up JDM bike for sale at $9 plus then you're in the market. I think Glen is quoting 750 numbers not 1100. Also Classic Bikes Direct had a less than original one for over $10 so you are in the range where the delaers are operating. If you want to flip it go cheaper.

Yes Paul (pkay Paul) you are correct, some sellers are asking the big numbers but they are not all selling for the big numbers and GTboy was asking what we thought about his Kat. Yes, my guesstimate at $8,500 could be considered low by some however, there is no room for tyre kickin' at that price. As Paul (Gtboy) has mentioned it'd have some tired parts on it so asking top dollar may be a struggle and sit around for awhile where as $8,500 would see it move pretty quick if Paul did decide to whack a "For Sale" tag on it. I don't mind being wrong on this one and for Paul's sake I hope that if he did sell the Kat he gets more than said $8,500.

Cheers.

Ta for all the info blokes.

As it is, I may just mothball my current Kat rather than sell it - I mentioned my plan to the cheese-and-kisses and she's not keen to see it go (bless her).
The GS is bought now, so it's not like I need to sell something to fund it necessarily, just that a reshuffle is required in the shed to squeeze another bike in.

Mind you, if someone was to make me an appropriate offer for the Kat... well, everything is for sale at the right price, after all.

Sounds good Paul.
By I think the Cheese & Kisses might have something to say about everything being for sale.
Plus you don't want to let her go if she does not want the Kat to go:D

Perhaps your space issue can be solved with putting stored bikes onto castor platforms?
