Hi Folks, no wonder it's a back breaking job installing a Kat engine or working on them without an engine stand! Weighed a stock 1981 20 bolt 1075 cc engine today. Engine was complete and fitted with stock 34mm CV carbs and OEM 15 T 630 sprocket. Why include the sprocket? It is 581 grams on its own.

No engine oil or filter when weighed.

Total dry weight = 93.22 kg.

But seriously, good work Glen, very hardy info to know. I am waiting on the delivery of a complete front & rear end off a GSX-R1100. And knowing that motor is 40% of the dry total will be useful.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul, yeah the extra cc doesn't help however, the 20 bolt tappet cover and fewer bolts shed a few grams compared to the 24 bolt 1074cc powerplant. So now all I have to do is build the rest of the Kat with parts that total 86.78 kg to hit my goal of a Kat with a dry weight of 180kg, one kg more than the 1985 750 Slabbie. Stock frame is next on the scales. No drilling allowed, someone has already collared that technology and registered the brand name;)

The boat anchor 630 drive train is way too heavy and not needed these days with high quality 520 chain available. 520 sprockets and chain and Ti bolts shave a few kg off.

Your GSX-R1100 parts sound interesting, what year are the bits, any hints on your project?

Cheers,

Glen.

Not sure? as these bits are still on the way from Perth and should be here next week. But assume they are stock / polish, the only other pic's I have won't load as they are copies from another website, but will have play with that.

Plan on doing a complete GSX-R do over on my 83 7/11, including the rear suspension.

Wow, good score with the parts! The donor Kat has had a ton of mozza thrown at it going by the pic. Wheels look stock Gixxer, makes it easy for parts and spacers etc. Thanks for the update Paul.

Cheers.
