I've decided to renovate the beast

Garp

GSX250S Rider
Although the pop up 750 is not my favorite Katana, it's still a worthy reno. Actually, it's starting to grow on me:)
What I would like to ask is what are my chances of finding a fairing and all the relevant parts for the front end?
I've got a good workshop and i can paint it myself, so that's an advantage.
I found a fiberglass replica fairing for 500 bucks, is it worth getting?
I also found the metal frame for the headlight but that was $300 with postage!
I'll also need some fork tubes, maybe they are common with other Suzuki's, Does anyone know offhand?

Hey Garp,

Thing about Popups is there were not that many in Aus back in the day (200 or so), and the parts were not remade by Suzuki like the earlier Kat so the parts are a bit thin on the ground.
The prices you say just the beginning of what to expect and , seriously be glad if you find them, and having paid the dollars, expect to have to refurbish/make work on top of that.

If the fairing is from that bloke down Gundagai way, check the quality before purchase , the one I got was kinda distorted and the dash would not fit. that said he did do the right thing and refund. I got a much better repro from Japan via Yahoo auctions, if fact Japan has more parts as bike was and is more popular there.
try https://www.jauce.com/ and search for GSX750S3 as it was known over there. it will cost $$$ plus GST

Use Mick Hones site for the part fiche and google the part number (if mick dosnt have it.)

Fork tubes are same design as other suzuki of the era but the length is different (16 inch wheel = longer) if looking for new after market try searching for GSX750ES 83
Theres some new tubes around, cheaper than re-chrome.

I started with a roughy too

So sorry I sold it, live and don't learn...

Good Luck and happy part hunting.

Good deal Garp, I'll be following along!

There was a conversation on Saturday that a Bandit motor may fit if you need a few more neddies and the 750 is a little beyond it.

Thanks for the excellent reply:) 200! well it's definitely worth doing.
Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how I go...
Btw, thanks for that link! I'm sure I'll be buying stuff from there:)

Thanks for the link, I ordered some gold fork tubes:)
I'm thinking black like yours. Maybe some gold flake...
The 750 has grown on me, it's my favorite Katana now

Hi garp gareth5000? I bought two repo sets of forks from Japan - gold and silver and they are top quality. Cost half the Rechroming costs ( but you cop it with delivery etc and fees). The pop up forks are unique. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen your bikes on YouTube. Cheers Shane ( I have a mate in Nowra who’s just starting one too)
