Tomcat

GSX250S Rider
Just got told by "Insuremyride" that the '82 Katana is outside of the their range for coverage due to age.

Any comments from the group on who they use / recommend for full comprehensive insurance?
Ideally I'd like to insure for an agreed value due to how much I've put into her in terms of parts alone.

Cheers

Hi Stuart,
I use Shannon's for my Katana's and i advise them what i want to insure my Katana's for and if it is on Club rego or Normal. All my Katana's are on the one Policy and have Full Comprehensive Insurance.

Wow really? The wee beastie is an '82 and it's with IMR. Means I might need to start looking too when it's due later this year...

If the bike is not a daily ride, look at Nrma classic or something similar.
Less than $80 for my BMW. For bikes over 15 years old
And you can fix it yourself

Yeah, might be different for existing customers . But there drop down list only goes to 1985 so I emailed them.

Stuart

I have insured with Shannon's for a few years now and have change everything including the house over to them. I have had to made a couple of claims which were processed very smoothly. The premiums overall are very competitive.

Shannons. Wouldn't bother dealing with anyone else. The more policies you have with them, the more discounts you get.
We have the Kat, my '66 GTV, the daily driver and the house and contents with them (Their Enthusiast's home and contents has some really nice coverage including parts/tools/enthusiast memorabilia coverage for free), and the Mito on "laid up" cover.

Have had Shannon's agreed value for years on the Kat and no problem at all with value - they did it over the phone and were not interested in looking at the Kat. The bloke I spoke to at the time knew what a Kat was and what they would cost to replace so all good. Have used their "Laid Up" policy for resto work and that is soo cheap it's almost free. Shannon's for me when it comes to bike cover.

thanks all, I'll give shannons a call as their online form did not like my request for an agreed value.

Cheers

I had mine with RACV (probably the same underwriter as NRMA and RACQ) and I found that the maximum agreed value was not as high as what Shannons offered. I've also gone through quite a bit of pain to get the bike back.

They did pay very quickly and I got $2k for my gear too. On the flipside, Peter is with Shannons and he still hasn't go all his money yet, but did get his bike back in a few days delivered to his house.

Won't use them (RACV) again though... I will go to Shannons purely for the agreed value

Also with Shannons the Kat now qualifies for salvage rights so make sure you get that too. When my 1100 fell off the side stand they even let me do the repairs after it had been to the assessor. They let me arrange all the parts and stuff so I could get the genuine stuff ( they knew there was a bit of messing around to find it and that their normal repairer wasn't that interested). I've got 51 bikes and my car with them - been with them for 25 plus years and really wouldn't go anywhere else. I recently had a broker reckon he could better the premium - missed by $1100 and didn't even include my car. And claims? easy as - one phone call and sorted - I've had two car accident claims, one car theft and one bike claim - and cause I have the protected for life no claim doesn't hurt the premium. Like Glen I make use of the laid up policy option when a bike is off the road for an extended period. People say Swann and others can be cheaper but when I put it all together (gear, premium, no claim, salvage rights, agreed value) they aren't. The only bike they seem expensive on is the Ducati Pantah - they must know something I don't.

49 NKNI's to be precise my good friend. I do feel that Suzuki is somewhat underrepresented in the hoard. Still would like a pre 88 GSXR-750 and a GSX1100 like the one D used to have. I have been thinking about additions of late. For some strange reason I seem to be thinking about those 50's English vibrators with wheels as well as something pre-war and German like a DKW.

Suzuki under represented? Oh the shame! :D

I think D would be impressed should you acquire something starting with Z...

Just thought an update might be helpful for all.

Originally insured through AAMI as have other policies with them, but they would only go to an agreed value of $4,500.
The reason I did this was becuase Shannons would not do insurance over the phone with me due to less than a full year on Open, and did not want to discuss my previous driving or riding history ( the girl was just going by the book ).

Any how, fronted up to the Shannons booth at the Sydney motorcycle show and when the staffer asked me "if I would like to insure with Shannons?", well let's just say I let fly with extreme prejudice!

True to his word, he listened to my situation, looked at the pics of the bike, wrote downs its resto history and promised a quote would come out which it did.

The quote was comparable with AAMI for the annual fee, but the agreed cover was more than double which I was happy with.
So decided to call just after the holiday season to arrange cover and provided the quote number.
The helpful chap on the line said "wait a minute, something is not right and I'll have to make a change" to which I thought the wheels of the plan had fallen off.
When he came back he said in a positive voice "well you'll be happy with this, I've mad a change due to the age of the bike which would have taken effect between the time of the original quote, and you confirming the policy. It's half the price":o

Now this may not have the same effect for most of you who have been with Shannons for a while, but worth checking out when renewal time arrives.
I don't mind providing the following as a reference.
Agreed value $10,000
Average riding twice a week and full rego
Usual cover for apparel, personal items, hire car for 14 days and towing etc.
No claim discount of 65%
Basic excess $500
Annual premium $315

Cheers
Stuart

Thanks for the update Stuart, that's good to know!

Hi Stuart, yep, I have the same premium for my Kat and our Kat details are the same. Good to know Shannons are consistent with their policies and prices.

Cheers.

Good to hear others thoughts on insurance.
No point having cheap insurance if a claim is difficult or you get shafted.
I have just received my renewal and will need to go check it out.
May need to bump up the valve.

Pump up the volume Clarkie
The replacement parts are not getting any cheaper!

What do you think the Mona Lisa is insured for?
