Hi all from Pauly

Well its been a while.
I didn't move over from the last site until now. I have just started my full restoration on my gs1100sz 1982 kat. I purchased this bike 6 months ago and the last time it was started was over 9 years ago. I have had it running and on the road for the last couple of months but came to a sudden halt with a faulty reg rec and a slight leak in the head gasket. So I decided to speed up the reno process. I have taken off the carbs and head and I'm in the middle of pulling a part the carbs.
Does anybody have any advice on where to get the correct carbie kits, I have seen some on ebay but not enough information with them to determine whether they are the correct kits for my carbs.
I'm also chasing the correct paint colour for the engine casings, if anybody has that information could they please let me know.
I will send photos on my next posting.

Regards Pauly.

Hi Pauly, glad to see you made the jump to the new site. Carb parts are one of the few things that using genuine parts are worth considering depending on what you need for the carbs. Many aftermarket carb kits and parts have a pretty poor reputation for quality and in some cases the parts don't fit at all. The cost of buying genuine parts once and knowing they will work as advertised compared to buying aftermarket and then having to pull the carbs apart and redo them again isn't worth the headache or money in the long run.

Cheers.

Thanks Tomcat
This is the site I was watching .I went on to the fits these bikes and mine wasn't on there but it did state all 80-83 models I just didn't know if this was a bit vague.

Thanks Tomcat

These kits look O.K. but don't forget to read the listing details. These kits are made in Japan "for Suzuki carbs" they are not genuine parts which is why they are soo cheap however, they may do the job but just be aware they are aftermarket parts all the same. I hope these kits do work because I'd be interested in buying a set considering how cheap they are.

Cheers.

Thanks for your advise, I appreciate your view
I paid $20.00 for 1 power jet the other day as one had a broken top.
I will look overseas for cheaper price which hurts because I'm in the industry and I try to keep business local. But not at these prices.
REG REC was $460.00 trade. Purchased for 220.00 landed. Sad but true.

Yeah, some times the local prices are just too much to take. I bought three genuine Suzuki new brake rotors from the USA and including delivery the whole lot cost me US $108.90. The rotors here in Oz from Suzuki were $260 each.

I have to agree with Glen on the matter of using quality original carb parts. I also bought 4x aftermarket kits which in the end were good for getting all the gaskets, o-rings etc. but have ordered original Mikuni jets and feel the money is worth it. Received the pilot air jets frm CMS and have the main / pilot on order with the agent in Townsville for my 750.

On the old forum I posted and resposted and resposted my Carb tuning dramas. Al lI could think of in the end was the Motorbike shop I paid to rebiuild the CVs after sitting idle for 10+ yrs used aftermarket carb kits and the jets were just not the same (even though they had the same numbers written on them).

When it comes down to putting the carbs in and out of tyhe bike around 10 times to swap jets the stuff around, as you know these carbs are buggers to pull in and out, just loses all comparison to the extra cash of buying genuine mikuni jets. gaskets, o-rings etc who cares what brand as long as they fit - just stay with genuine jets. Itll be worth it when you clean them, replace the jets, o-rings and gaskets, wack em in and off you go - no months of dramas chasing ya tail only to finally replace said jets with mikunis anyway.... Only my 3 cents

Check out this guide to CV carb rebuild too - step by step and very helpful www.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage/gs/Mikuni_BS-CV_Carburetor_Rebuild_Tutorial.pdf CV carb tutorial

Cheers
Rusty and welcome to the 'new' Kat house!!

Thanks for that site Rusty
a wealth of information.
Im starting the strip down of the carbs tonight and taking them to Jimboomba to be Vapour blasted.
Im no mechanic so wish me luck.

Pauly
Please post some picks after the Vapour Blasting. Am looking to send some spare engine covers up there. Am originally from around there and mum still lives at Park Ridge ( will be up there in April s/hols ).

Good Luck Pauly. The first attempt I did on my carbs was to take them to a mechanic. Unfortunately I have no idea what they did to em, but 1. They didnt work and 2. the pilot screws screwdriver thread was fucked and had to get expert help form someone else to remove pilot screws.

Second attempt was to have a crack myself. These are the first carbs I ever played with, as was the kat the first bike. However after finding that website and print out the pages I found it really quite easy. Unfortunately I still could not diagnose the issue with them and put it down this day to the mechanic using non OEM carb needles when I paid him to rebuild them... Oh well - I ended up buying some Keihin CR's and have not looked back since. (by the way I kept the originals in the event I ever wish to make her back to original).

All teh best and keep us informed how ya get on!!
