Hi All, can someone please tell me why fuel pisses out of the 2 holes on my carbies which I've marked in yellow. What do I have to get from Mick hone ?IMG_20191231_103924.jpg
cheers thanks rangerkat1100

First guess is your float levels are too high - adjustments required.

Second option might be the float valves - best to replace.

Also, your fuel tap might be had-it. Fuel should only flow when suction is generated by engine running and trap in either ON or RES. Fuel should only flow freely when in Purge position.

The holes are the main Air Jet openings so if fuel is comming out of there then the fuel bowls are flooding.

I'm guessing this is cylinders 1&2 and leaking when on side stand?

Thanks Tomcat for your advice. How do you adjust float levels & are the float valves those little square brass things with the centre spring loaded pin in them under the floats. Number 3 is loose & seems to sit lower than the others and is easy to pull out but the others are in tight. Do they just pull out?
I appreciate any advice/suggestions that you may have Tomcat.
cheers, rangerkat

Hi Ranger.
Yes, the float needle ( needle&seat) is a square brass piece with a pointed tip and a spring on a Center pin.
Float level adjustment is done by slightly bending the tab between the floats that pushes against the pin.
Float needles should pull out easily as it is meant to move freely in its holder / seat.

I see your in PNG. If you give me your email via Private Message I'll send you an electronic copy of the service manual if you don't have already.

Cheers
Stuart

The round brass discs are the floats, but the level at which they close off the float needle/seat is done by the tab in the Center of the joining piece between the two.

First test; remove both the fuel hose and vacuum hose from the tap assembly under the tank. Turn to ON and RES and be sure no fuel flows. If fuel does flow, a rebuild kit or a new tap assembly will be needed. Fuel should flow on Purge only.

Second test; check float levels as per manual. You'll need a metal engineers ruler or better still is a vernier caliper

Third test / step; replace the needle/seat on each carb. You can order through Mike Hone in Melbourne, CMS.NL in Netherlands or your local Suzuki dealer.

Thanks heaps guys. I will be following all advice and I do have a pdf manual so in the new year I will sort it out. Hopefully !
Happy New Year to all..

Hey Ranger, this is your Kat that was sitting for ages while you were in PNG right? It could simply be that the needle valve has stuck open with emulsified fuel (part #48 on the fiche: http://www.mickhone.com.au/partFinder/fiche/suzuki/1982/gsx750s/carburetor#next). I know that's the 750 diagram but I believe the same carbs as the 1100.

If you have issues with the fuel tap like what Tomcat suggested then this will make it oh so much worse as the fuel flow will never stop.

Hi All again, my Kat that was in storage for 10 years is alive once again. I'll keep it short, new battery, new tyres ( BT45s ), complete carbies strip down clean out re-assemble, brakes serviced/overhauled plus oil filter change. After a power pack added to battery power and a bit of cranking the bike fired up. I've ridden around the block a few times a short blast up the highway. My problem is she runs poorly until I get to about 3200 revs then she really takes off running great.
I'm having trouble getting idle sorted and I've set the pilot screws/jets at 3 complete turns out from bottom. What do you reckon guys ?I once again appreciate any of your words of advice.
cheers,rangerkat1100

Charge ya battery and keep the revs up from 3500 to 4250, take it to 5k between gear changes. Also find out how to check the float heights.and two turns out on the screws.

If you have never changed it, you may want to change the spark plug caps. The resistor inside the spark plug cap is apt to deteriorate.

How well were the carbies stripped down and cleaned? Do you know for sure there is no fuel residue stuck in the pilot circuits?

Have you balanced/sync'd the carbs at all?
