Hello all,My names Steve and i'm an English ex pat living in Sweden,i'm 44 and had bikes my whole life, too many too list but Suzukis are my fave, never owned a Honda. For over twenty years i have wanted a big kat but never had one,i did have a pop up 750 a few years back which i restored and will post some pics of when i find them.Anyway i decided the time had come to go big kat hunting and turned to U.K and German ebay for my search as they are virtually non existent in Sweden or ridiculously expensive, four came along at once in England and i really liked the look of one, some deranged person had painted completely light blue with pink wheels and it looked horrendous but you could tell it was a good bike underneath, unfortunately i was outbid and pretty gutted but less than a week later a nice one appeared on German ebay at the right price,i hit the buy it now button and am now the proud owner of a GSX1100 Katana! Now all i have to do is wait until the snow has cleared enough that i can get my van on the road and drive down to Hamburg to collect it,hopefully at the beginning of next month, anyway here's a photo of it and also of the one that got away, cheers.

Hi Steve and welcome to Katland. Thanks for your into and glad to hear you have had a win buying the German Kat, nice connection there. She looks O.K. and that seat should make the ride home to Sweden pretty comfy. Yeah, we saw the horror blue and pink Kat when it was listed. Man, that paint job has to be in the top 5 most rooted colour combos to ever hit a Kat. Then again if it was a chicks Kat the colours could be almost justified - almost! Hope the snow melts soon and you enjoy the ride home back North.

Cheers,
Glen.

G'day Steve and welcome. Congratulations on the new KAT. May you have as much fun as the rest of us. We probably get a few more months riding than you. But we can't ski to the shop neither!...cheers Ian.

Or go to the beach at 10p.m. in High Summer and still see chicks in bikinis, loved the Summer of 1985 when I was there.

Cheers.

Cheers lads, yepp, you definitely get a few more months riding in,approx 5 months covered in the white stuff over here, still plenty of time to get work on the bikes done,i'm currently halfway through restoring my 88' DR750BIG ready for summer, some friends are riding over from the U.K and we're going to do the top half of Norway,a great place for two wheels, anyway here's a pic of my alternative ride for winter,i don't suppose you see too many of these in Oz!

..NO WAY... mine would have to be a SUZUKI....if they make them...strangely I've never researched the SUZUKI range regarding Snow Ski's...Every thing I own is a Suzuki....even the bed warmer is Susan..

PS...Just noticed the JMC swing arm

I don't think Suzuki have made a snowscooter since the mid 70's,but to make up for owning a Yamaha i did have an old Arctic Cat which was powered by a two stroke 300cc fan cooled Suzuki motor.

Do you think that swingarm with the skinny brace is a JMC? I've not seen one like that before, thought it might have been German.

Welcome Steve, and congratulations on the 1100 pickup. Looks like now you'll have another Arctic Kat in the shed.
Does not look like there is much to do, and your closer to CMS parts than the rest of us.

Cheers
Stuart

....I think the alloy ones are" fatter"...it looks like a steel one....Please correct me if I'm wrong.....I'm no expert on them!.

Here's a better photo of it,i'm still undecided as to whether it's steel or alloy.I had the original swingarm on My ZZR1100 braced by JMC and the brace was huge and butch looking, this looks a bit wimpy in comparison, the wheels are PVM,a german manufacturer.

Do they use heaps of salt on roads in Germany like the US?
Looking at the welds I think it's alloy.

I think they use salt on the roads down in Germany and use summer tyres all year round, not that cold, studded tyres up here so you have have two sets of wheels for each car,bit of a ball ache.Judging by the welds i'm hoping it's alloy, should polish up nice.

Welcome to the KatHouse Steve. I love the Vmax. Way back in my youth I would go snowmobiling with my friends. We had a few Arctic Cats and Yamahas in our group. It shouldn't be too much longer until you can get on your Kat. Enjoy.

Cheers from Canada

Found some photo's of my pop up and scanned them,as you can see they are the before and after shots, nice bike that,if i had it now i would definitely put it back in it's white and black original colour scheme.

Haha, yes it is a little large,i don't know what the score is in Oz but U.K coppers love pulling you over for small plates and getting their tape measure out and then referring to the little book of rules they carry with them, giving you a hard time and then ultimately a fine.Go catch some bloody real criminals!

Hi Steve, welcome from a warm and sunny South Africa to this Kathouse inhabited by loonies but with loads of info and experience. Nice score on the bike. Enjoy!
Cheers
Mel
