Hello from Eden

G'day!
My name is Garp, aka gareth5000 on yt. I was at Coles a few months ago admiring an old gsxr1100 like the one I had in '87 when a fella I know of came up to me and told me he had an old motorbike at home but the pop up headlight was missing. I knew what bike he was talking about straight away, I've always fancied a Katana. To cut a long story short, it's mine now. It hasn't been ridden in 17 years, it's been under a tarp in his backyard so it has a little patina, as they say:) It's a major project but I've got a workshop and plenty of time on my hands...
I'm open to suggestions on what you think I should do, restore it, get it running and ride it as a naked bike, sell it as is or wreck it. I'm not sure what's best yet. I'll get it back here next week and give it a pressure wash. I thought I'd put some fresh oil in it and try to start it, apparently, it was running fine when it was parked up. The brakes are seized and the key is missing so I'll sort that out first.
Anyway, thanks for the forum. Life is so much easier with the internet:)
I tried to upload some pix but it didn't seem to work?

G'day Garp

Welcome along. You'll find plenty of info and helpful people here. Sounds like you've got yourself a great little project there. Everyone is different, but for me keep it looking original, but put a set of upside down forks in it and a beefier rear-end - they look great.

How is the fuel tank - rusted? Maybe get some oil in those cylinders and see if you can turn it over with the rear wheel first?

Goog luck - keep us updated with pictures - we all love pictures. It takes a little to work how to upload.

Regards

Muddy

Welcome along Garp, the more the merrier!

Keen to see some photos even as-is, always good to see a project from start to end.

Hi Garp, some pics would good, just to see what you're dealing with. Kat rescue is a thing. And as Pete said, there is plenty of free, friendly advice here. Welcome aboard.

Hey lads! I didn't get any notifications until now, I thought you all didn't like me:)
Thanks for replying, I'll try to work out how to post pictures...

Hey Garp, it has been a while and from what I remember, it is a little tricky. However the key thing is there is a byte size limit on the photos that can be uploaded. Try again after reducing the byte size of each photo.

Pete is the IT guru and might have some other tips.

Now that I've done that, there is an alternative that displays the picture.

IT guru? Mate that's pushing it! :D

The forum software's a bit dated (yeah we need to do something about that) so it's not as easy as it could/should be unfortunately.

The easiest way I find is if you're on Windows, right click the image you want to post and select "Edit with Paint 3D". When it opens, you can go to the "Canvas" tab up the top and reduce it to 50% by updating the Width and Height boxes on the right hand side.

Save it as a JPG or whatever again and it should be resized suitable to be able to post.

Once that's done, make sure you're in the Advanced editor on the forum (Go Advanced button at the bottom), and use the "Insert Image" button to upload and post the image. That should attach it to your post, and include a preview in the text.

Yeah, not real straight forward at all...

If you're doing all this on a phone or tablet, then I've not tried that myself and not sure how to go about it at the moment.

Android phone.
Download a photo app and reduce the file size to under a Mb. XGimp works but is clunky.
Then follows Pete's instruction ( go to advanced, picture icon).
Also "upload images" is the button even though it doesn't look like it.

Oh and gday garp!

Harder than it should be sorry Garp, that's for sure!

Those worked for me though, and yeah she's rough but fixing that is what the fun is all about right?

Hi Garp, I am using Google photos and an app called Photoslink, which unfortunately seems to have disappeared from Google Play store. I believe ImgBB does the same thing, but I heven't used it. I share the photo from Google Photos to Photoslink and from there I can copy a Bulletin Board (BB) formatted link, which I can paste directly as text into the Reply Box and when posted the photo appears in full size as below.
