Hey guys, I know Ben (boogieman) runs early 2000's GSX750F carbs on his 1260 and they do the job extra nicely, but does anyone know if the 1989 version of the GSX750F carbs are of a similar ilk? There's a set on eBay at the moment for a decent price I'd like to snatch up if they're going to do the job...

Not sure on the 1989 set Pete, that's getting pretty far back in the F Series but knowing Suzuki they most likely fit if the 2004 F Series fit. Mounting space between the carbs to the head on the older set might be the same but I don't know? I have a set of 2004 GSXF carbs for the DW 180 but they are going on an Effy head and bolt straight on.

Cheers.

Hijack away Nige, I'm keen to see the DW180 also! Bet it gets done before mine too...

Seller of the '89 carbs reckons they're no good for a Kat, I would've rather he'd given me the dimensions so I could see for myself but never mind. I'll do some more Googling yet.

Pat, the plan is to go velocity stacks with foam filters over the top as I like the throttle response from the stacks but still need to keep all the sticks, stones, and dust out.

Hi Pete, if the carbs you are looking at are real cheap like under $100 then maybe worth a punt however, at 1989 they aren't much younger than OEM Kat carbs. If you can find a set of later carbs from the GSXF series you'll find they are a much better carb and parts are most likely not as much an issue as the 1989 units could be?

Just thinking of carb parts support for your Kat to cover the next 30 years of riding. Trust me, 30 years go by pretty quickly!

Cheers.

I hear ya' Glen, my preference would definitely be to stick with the early 00's like you and Ben have.

One question I asked the seller was the km's the bike they came from had on it, my thinking was a low km bike may not have the emulsion tubes or slides flogged out. All a moot point now anyway and I'll just bide my time until the right set come up at the right price. I still have Reg's stock carbs here he's loaned me to get me on the road so it's not urgent.

Hey Pete, another reason to go with the 00's F Series carb is Joe was telling me they don't have the emulsion tube seat wear problem to the extent the Slingshot carbs are prone to.

Cheers.

Ah ok, that's good to know! Will definitely hold off until a set of those pop up at the right price.
