GSX250S Baby Kat

So..... about two years ago I bought a baby kat in very good condition but wasn't running due to electrical problems according to the chap I bought it from. Apparently he couldn't get a decent spark at the plugs sufficient enough to fire it up.
Since then, I've replaced the ECU and plugs and checked that the coils we're ok.
Went I attempted to kick it over it would pop pop a few times but wouldn't fire.
Had my local bike shop check timing, compression and firing order which all turned out ok however still wouldn't run.
They discovered that the ohm resistance of the spark plug caps had deteriorated and was too high. Of course they are like hens teeth but I did surprisingly find some in the States through eBay.
But here's another problem. I've never had trouble cranking it over but yesterday it seemed to be struggling and then absolutely nothing happens when pressing the starter button. Nothing, zilch, nada.
I've checked the battery and it ok, plenty of cranking amps.
So.....am I looking at a starter solenoid or a stator, or both, or something else.

Hi Brad.
The 2 are not related if its runs fine.
You have a starter circuit problem,
Fuse power to the circuit . ( power to start switch
A faulty switch or starter relay(common)
Or an open circuit in the starter relay circuit or to you starter.
All simple checks just check in the order above and DA DAH fixed.

I hope this helps if you have not done the above. I dont know your experience.

PS Stator will not be an issue if your battery is charged.

Thanks
I'm going to start with replacing the starter relay. I've already checked the starter switch and that seems to be OK.
I'm determined to get this little bugger started and running.

Brad did you find the problem?
I forgot to add check earth from battery to frame??
Sorry I have taken a year to get back to you.....so it was the starter relay. However, I've spent the last year, on and off, trying to get the carbies rebuilt. I sent them to a guy in Victoria and he had them for nine months and did nothing with them. So it's still not going. I'm about to remove them, again, ultrasonically clean them and rebuild them myself. I haven't given up yet. Next step might be getting a running 250 bandit motor installed if I can't get the carbies working.

Ahhhh a touch newer than my gsx250s that I had!

Still a great bike. Very easy to rebuild the carbs, cleanliness is the key and attention to detail.

Good luck 👍

Hey Brad, hope its running. I finally got round to one of mine a 82 750 Kat. Just added wire wheels and its now on the road.
I understand time is a problem sometimes but its always worth the wait. Dont give up.

By the way Ive had a heap of problems with a pop up not behaving on all cylinders sometimes too. Its fixed now but I still think a modern upgraded igniton system is going in . 1 for reliability, after all the original is 40 yrs old 2 the ease to replace a Dyna or similar if stuck out of town or out of state. The original stuff is hard to just buy when needed.
