I am doing some very basic restoration work on my 1982 Katana 1100 and need to do some significant paint touch up on the frame. Is there a supplier or a spec for the frame colour so I can get some made up?
Peter Todd
Hi Peter,
Welcome and enjoy your resto.
Not original frame colour, but so close it isn't funny is VHT Engine Enamel SP127 'Universal Aluminium'. Otherwise standard Katana silver is, for bodywork, I think from memory is Suzuki 13L. Others here will be able to confirm or set you on the exact colour match path.
Cheers
Rob
If you want original, yep, 13L is the paint code. The only known brand with this colour code is PPG and they have this available in their Deltron range. I sprayed my Kat with it, and it's very nice paint to use too, even for a novice like me!
I have owned the K from new in 1982. Has only a bit over 30,000 km on the clock. Has been in hibernation a number of times. This time I will put on Vintage plates to reduce the pain of rego each year. It is currently 100% original except for some new rings I put in a few years ago. Not that they were needed. I have had the original mufflers rewelded a few time and I have just found another hole so I will put on the original looking mufflers I purchased from Europe. Had the clutch cover off to change the oil sight glass (I had zero idea of what the oil level was and the clutch kept slipping). I have taken the opportunity to get all the covers polished and the wheel rims bead blasted and polished (Metal Polishing Dave in Penrith).
