Hi All, does anyone happen to know if the inner fork tubes for the popup are compatible from other 84/85 vintage GSX models. Mine are severely rusty and a rechrome is likely too expensive. If possible i would like to swap the inners over only and keep the antidive units. I know the part numbers are different after a view of the microfiche. Cheers.

HI Nick, with two of my Kats one 1100 and the other the '83 750 S3 i had the fork tubes rechrome and it cost about $420.00 and they came up trumps.

That's not a bad price Nick, I had 2 sets hard chromed / rebuilt at RAD in Brissie, 1 set also had a slight bend taken out.....$800 each pair :o

Very nice job though :)

Rechroming is never cheap. I called a company around here to see how much he would charge to rechrome a couple of bumpers for my car and the guy said $600. I'm like, that's not too bad. he says " No, that's for one".

Yes, I remember a time long long ago.....I took a couple of job lots into the chrome place that used to be opposite the showgrounds in Townsville (might even still be there for all I know ), a fair few bits and bobs each time ranging from nuts and bolts to struts, covers, springs and so on.....paid about 80 to 100 bucks each time.
I know time marches on and all that but was recently quoted $200 for two strap buckles and a set of foot pegs, I do miss those days sometimes :)

no rechrome ta

only ones remotely close will be 83 GSX750ES you need 37dia and 637mm long most others are shorter or longer ie original katana 615mm long (for the record ES is 1mm short...)
you could try

@200 each cheaper than a rechome...
But then your probably realising theres nothing cheap about restoring

Thanks. I knew 37mm is the right size. I can swallow the 1mm :)
Can I buy the 83 type and expect a straight strip down and swap over of the inners only? Part numbers are different. I can buy an original set of forks for 260 (which is good, though unseen), or i have a couple of options for the 37mm type though i don't know if they will actually fit.

Thanks for the other replies, though i don't want a re-chrome as i am a cheapskate :)

I have a set of forks that you want that are in very good condition. I am asking $230 the pair if you are interested. OLHCS

Cheers, I might pass at the min as the freight might put me over what i would like to spend. Though i can keep that in mind and I appreciate the offer. Nick.
