G'day From Central QLD

G'day,
My name is Adrian and i am an addict.

I have had 25 bikes so far and i need another Kat.

I remember when i first saw a Katana. I was at high school in the early 80's and my science teacher rode one in and i was hooked. While we were sneaking smokes in behind the science building at lunch i was dreaming about his bike, smoking cigarettes and just staring at it. It was like nothing else around.

#1. 750Kat.jpgWhen i was a 4th year apprentice i could afford my first Katana, a white 750 pop-up. Had it for a couple of years with many fond memories. I rode it every where. A weekend trip to Brisvegas, up to Mackay while working up there and i left it at home and took the car the old man would take it for the day and let his mates have a ride.

#2. 82KAT.jpgThe next one was an '82 1100 basket case. I powder coated the frame and rebuilt the motor. That bike really moved. When i got down to one point left, i off loaded it for a 650 Tengai. (Needed to slow down.)

#3. Kat-2.jpgA couple of bike later and the urge for another Kat came along. so sell the ZZR1100 and back on another 1100 Kat. This time an 83 model with the reddish stripe down the tank. Loving it but noticed the oil light came on every time the front wheel was up in the air leaving the boom gates on the toll road in Brissy. o off it went and to a Hayabusa.

#4. 1000 Kat.jpgThe Hayabusa didn't last long as i couldn't afford a new back tyre every 3-5K so off it went and i got a '83 1000. I had the original 4 into two pipes, oval slide carbs and wire wheels. Even had an genuine upper fairing still in the Suzuki box. I still regret selling that one. I spent a lot of time and money on it. complete rebuilt motor, re-laced the rims, re-chromed the forks, complete re-spray but never got it finished due to baby number 3 here and the toy had to go for more house hold items. That was 9.5 year ago and i need another Katana, another 1100.

My current steed is a 1250 bandit (my every day transport) and i also have a BMW R75/7 (cafe racer father/son project).

I have worn the wife down and she has given permission to get another Kat so now the fun begins and the research begins trolling the classifieds and doing some networking trying to find "the one".

Thanks for reading, stay upright.

Hi Adrian

Hope you have better luck than I've been having, but then again I'm looking for a project bike for low $'s to start with. All the same I do love my '82 750.

I feel it's been a quiet at moment, but there have been a couple of 7/11's if your happy with that and the money they're asking.

Check out the Selling & Listed Elsewhere posts as you might find something listed previously which has not sold yet, but also comments from members.

Perhaps you'll manage to get one in time to attend the 35th Anniversary meet in Albury?

Cheers
Stuart

Hi Adrian and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your intro and the fun you have had with Kats and the others we won't mention here. There are still Kats around so don't be rushed into buying one unless you are pretty sure it's the right one. All the best for your hunt for the Big Kat. Let us know how it goes and of course keep an eye on the forum because when someone finds a Kat for sale it'll get posted here, if they haven't bought it.

Cheers,
Glen.

Welcome Adrian, good intro mate, as Max says ' you'll fit right in ' here :)

As other members have already stated 1100's, 1000's, 750's, 7/11's and Darksides will regularly pop up on the Bay, Gumtree etc and if not owned by a member, someone here often knows the history of the bike.

If it is a 'fresh' find it'll be posted here for sure and often given the once over and commented on with regards to condition, pricing, originality (not that it is always a major factor) and so on. No one will say you must buy it / not buy it, modify it / not modify it etc, we all enjoy the experience and friendship here and as long as you have the Kat bug, no worries.
By the looks of your intro you are well used to sussing out a bike you are interested in, welcome again and good hunting.

Eric

btw - where abouts in Central Qld do you call home.

Thanks for the welcome.

my first 1100 basket case was actually a 7/11 that used to be a drag bike when i got it. To me it didn't seem right so i got an 1100 frame sent up from a wreckers down south and then it was right,to me.

it is the thrill of the hunt that is a big part as well. I have been looking for a while now and the ones that appeal to me for what i believe is a decent price have already gone. there is one i am looking at at the moment but i wont get time off work until next school holidays so good chance it will be gone. but they do come up on a regular basis. i have always found that the best bikes are picked up from "word of mouth".

I live at Gladstone, approx. 1 hr south of Rockhampton. When i do get one i will let all know and we can organize a ride. What i do with mates from Brisbane is we meet at the "Sexy Coffee" near Maryborough. That is a neat 3hrs south for me and 3hrs north from Brisvegus. Ride around Hervey bay and have lunch there then be home for dinner. Generally a good day out.

"Sexy Coffee" near Maryborough.....know it well.
Has seen it's fair share of Katana spares and jacket trading business in the car park.

Yep a katch up sometime would be good :)

G'day Max,
I am also on the Island. Been there 4 years now on QCLNG. I thought i would be let out for good behavior but i am being kept in longer for that. Enough of work though, i will be back there tomorrow!!

Thanks Max,
i rang about the one in rocky and it sold a while ago. He just hasn't removed the add. As far as i know the bloke selling the pop ups isn't selling the 1100. When i get a weekend off i want to ring him up and check out the pop-ups, i am trying to get my oldest son to get one. One of each wouldn't look quite good in the pool room.
