Freight for Headers

Hey guys, anyone shipped a set of headers around the place? Josh got a quote to send the ones he has up to me, but it's ridiculous at $100... we're both sure that's just not right... any tips on a freight company or how we can get it done? I believe it's NSW Central Coast where Josh is and of course I'm in Brissie.

Hi Pete, was that price from a transport company or Australia Post? A cast 19" wheel (no tyre) 6.7 kg posted from Melbourne to Brisvegas cost $38.80 in Feb this year. Headers don't weigh much but transport companies also charge for the volume of the parcel, Australia post is more about the weight for most parcels, not sure what they would do to work out charges for headers.

Aus post charges by the cube too for large, light objects. Being non metro to metro is also going to always be more expensive than metro to metro.
Try E-go - they're basically greyhound bus freight.

We use freight companies up and down the coast every day Pete, and if the pickup or drop off is not on a basic path they slug you if they have to drive an extra 15k's out of the way. Headers are a bulky unit if it cant be broken down into parts.
Shame its not in Sydney as I could get it up to Sumner Park for a schooner at the SoO.

Nige

Cheers Nige, yeah that doesn't surprise me at all! I figured their prices are based on moving a large number of items from one spot to another... anything else is just a premium. Can't see any way to make SoO work for me this year again either unfortunately... had a year to work on it and still not likely!

Sydney to Sumner Park for beers, works for me Nige. Handy to know.

Cheers mate.

Where in sydney? Haha.

I'll try ego again, they were actually the 100 quote. I'll take them to aus post too, I thought they were to big for aus post.

Aust Post have sent wheels and complete exhaust systems to me and so far no problem, they were cheaper than freight company but, always compare.

Also just bubble wrap them that way auspost will only charge a weight rate as opposed to a cubic rate. Eg a Kat seat from Port Stephens to Perth boxed was over a $100 but just bubble wrapped was only $38.

Cheers

And I have paid a $100 plus 3 times now for seats from the east coast! Must remember the bubble wrap first.

G'day lads, I would think pipes etc would make it relatively unscaved being wrapped in plastic (bubble wrap) ....I would be concerned about something like a seat being damaged as you wouldn't except any damage. I have had items arrive damaged in the carton. Cheers Ian
PS...This is relative to how many seats your seat man has and how obliging and accommodating he is!

It's all good Josh, you're not exactly holding my project up :D

Ian... who's your seat man?

Tom, Their was more than enough bubble wrap inside the box!
.
Pete, My comments were tongue in cheek directed at Tom as I've sent three new 250 seats from over east to Golden Bay for big $....Cheap seats....BIG FREIGHT !!
