Frame powder coating

There are no powdercoat silver with metallic flakes that match 13L. There are metallic silver powders however, put the tank, side covers and cowl on and there is a noticeable difference in the colour and flake so if it's an OEM finish you are after you'll be disappointed. Plenty of Kat owners have powder coated frames although, having worked in powdercoating I wouldn't do it to my frame. Others have done it and seem happy with the result.

There is a reason powder coating is cheap.

Cheers.

Personally I prefer PC - and the local place in BRENDALE has a silver called Porsche silver which is as close as.

Either way - be sure that the drains are open and in good nick and knock off all the birdsh!t welding splatter and bits of welding rod that were smuggled out of Hamamatsu.

Also before you paint check the condition of the various welded on nuts (esp tank mount) and the coil mounts - these are particularly liable to crack.

Yeah, I do like pc as well. Reckon you could find out the brand of pc your local one uses as I’m in Sydney. Or give me the ph number and I’ll give them a call. Also, how did you go with the id tag on the headstock? Did you just pop rivet it back on?

Yeah, I know it will be hard to get a perfect colour match but if I can get it as close as possible, it could be a goer. Decisions, decisions.

Thermal Edge is the mob at BRENDALE, and they use Prismatic Powders for their colours. https://www.prismaticpowders.com

If you jump on the Prismatic Powders web site, they'll send you some free samples (up to 5 I think).

Having seen Derek's frame, yeah that silver's not too far away from the correct 13L, you'd really have to look close to see the difference.

Awesome, thanks, Pete.
I’ll check it out.

Too easy, I went with Astatic Red on mine... but I wasn't planning on stock anyway :D

I painted my frame using Duplicolor Aluminium Engine enamel from aerosol which I clear coated with a POR Glisten PC 2-pack which I spray gunned. The colour match to 13L is very, very close and the paint/clear is combo is super tough.

The cover below is Genuine Suzuki, fresh out of the bag, and the top clamp I painted and clear coated.

That did indeed work out well Darryl!

Also, if you're keen to paint rather than PC, you can get the correct 13L from PPG in their Deltron range... that's what I used and it's excellent paint to spray with too, lays down very nicely indeed even for a rank amateur like me.

It sure is Pete, the bodywork is all done in PPG 13L

Good stuff Darryl, she looks awesome of course! :)

I went for 2pac on the frame as have had bad experiance with PC on steel both personally and through work.

Whilst the sprayer was not the best and left a lot of the underside not clear coated, the finish in general is good.
If/when I decide to get the frame done again, I'll be going the 2P road again! Just with a better tradie.

I reckon I'll try the powder coat route - Prismatic Precision Silver has been reported elsewhere to be a very close match - that is what I was planning to try.

Hey new member welcome along Muddy! Feel free to post an intro and say g'day.

Get prismatic powders to send you some samples from their website, definitely worthwhile.
