Forum Issues - Let us know!

Hey all, been having some minor issues with the forum lately, one error reporting "too many redirects" and the other reporting a 500 error due to server capacity issues.

The too many redirects error should be fixed as of half an hour ago or so but I haven't seen the other error again yet to figure that one out.

If you see any other issues with the forum can you let myself and/or Frankie know please?

I've also noticed the forum is forced to use insecure http rather than https at the moment as well which I'm looking into sorting out. I'll be extra careful before fixing it so I don't break the forum!

With all our social bans at the moment it's important to make sure the forums are up and running so we can keep in contact.

2 : When I have a running PM with individuals it sometimes doesnt let me continue the convo. Except randomly a day or two later.

Hey Pete, thanks for looking into this for everyone. Some observations:

Often no access early of a morning

Would be great to get the specification list going if possible

Email notification of thread updates does not appear reliable

General Discussion link on home page does not appear to work correctly

2 : When I have a running PM with individuals it sometimes doesnt let me continue the convo. Except randomly a day or two later.

When you say "NEW" posts Nige, what do you mean exactly? When I log in I always just hit "New Posts" on the menu up the top and I always see what's new since the last time I logged in. If you log out then back in again, you will only see what's new since you logged out.

With your PM comment, you mean it doesn't contain the quoted text from the previous comments? I've had that same issue and so far I know as much as it seems to relate to previous text but I haven't figured out the cause yet. I suspect it's due to certain character combinations that break the quote function.

I need to investigate the early morning issues, I haven't had them for a few days now.

I have the same email issues, and in fact I got no notification of either yours or Nige's responses to this thread!

General discussion link... When I click "General Discussions" it lists all those forums ok for me (Introduction, General Chat, High Performance, etc.). What happens when you click it? Send a screen shot perhaps?

Hahaha dunno about a guru... been in the industry since 1990 but not looking after forums and websites etc. so some things are quite new

So the reason you see very little there is that there is... very little...

There are actually no threads in there that I can see. They all seem to be in General Chat... there are two separate General Discussions on the forum page! Once's a category that includes Introduction, General Chat, etc. and the other is the General Discusssions forum itself which is what you're referring to.

Yeh Pete I do the same as you. Log in and push "new posts" and usually read what has been put up since I have logged out.
Just sometimes I log on and nothing new comes on the screen. But in the little left side screen you can see who has put in comments on a particular thread so I cilick on that and new posts are there?
The PM section lets me have a back and forth with whoever then just stops. Come back maybe a day later and I then can continue.
Maybe I am doing something wrong. Does clearing old PM's help? Is there a limit?

Sorry if I dont make sense.

I dont wish this to be a massive thread Pete so any issues I will "PM" you.

Ah got ya' Muddy! Pretty sure there's a setting on whether only recent posts are displayed or not, so probably anything older than 30 or 60 days or something are being filtered off. Will see if I can fix that or not, may need more access yet.

Hey Andrew, yeah that's the error that occurs frequently in the mornings. It stopped me being able to get on yesterday morning or this morning.

At this point it's actually looking like we need to raise a support request with the service provider which I'm unable to do. I'll have to find out how we do that.

Most days for the last 10 days I have not been able to log on to the Forum, once I sign in I get directed to Telstra Broardband site telling me all systems are on-line and working. It then wont let me back onto the Forum. Sign in again and the loop starts all over again. Had my P.C. checked yesterday and is clear with no problems and was told it is an issue with local Telstra system, others have been having the same issue.

Don't know what to do next or just wait it out until Telstra sort it.

That's a real bummer Glen! There's an ongoing issue with the forum in the early mornings still, nothing I can do unfortunately until I have the ability to raise a support case with our service provider. Frankie's still endeavouring to sort that out with Shane but this damn COVID-19 crap has made it next to impossible as Frankie now can't pay him a visit.

If others are having issues with Telstra then that's gonna make it so much harder for you at the moment. What a time to be having internet issues! I'm grateful our NBN has been good, had it offline for over three weeks a couple of months back and had it all resolved just in time for this extended work from home period.

I need to check out the registration page and process and see how I can prevent them joining in the first place, however I also can't do that until I get some more access. I'll keep you guys up to date though!
