Howdy, i have just got myself a 1985, 750 katana, which needs lots and lots of love. It's 90% complete.
I am going to strip it right down and make it brand new again. Just wondering is it had to find parts for them.
Firstly I am looking for a owners manuel and any close up photos of whole bike. Thanks heaps. Carnt wait to get started.cheers

Hi Chris and welcome to Katana Australia. Good score on the Kat and all the best with the project. I am sure some of the GSX 750S crew here will be along with some photo help (Rusty). Genuine Manuals turn up from time to time on e-bay but you need to be quick to grab them. There are two parts to the GSX 750S Manual, the main basic manual covering the running gear, engine, brakes etc and also a supplementary manual for the Katana features that are not in the basic edition manual for the GSX 750. There is a company in N.Z. that list copies of manuals and have had pretty good reviews on the quality and price.

Here is the N.Z. manual. It looks like this is the basic manual going by the photos so it might pay to ask the seller about the Katana Supplementary Manual.

Cheers.

P.S. Just read you post again and see that you have a 1985 model. They aren't the Classic Katana like the GSX 750 S, they are another model so everything I said here is of no use. However, the good news is there are plenty of Darkside owners here that will be able to help you even though that model Suzuki is about the most difficult bike to find some of the genuine parts for. If you have the genuine mirrors and the cowl and instruments are all there you are in a pretty good starting position to begin returning her to as new condition.

Thanks, someone decided the bike would look good painted black and gold with a few red stripes, oh and they used a brush.under the black paint it used to be blue. Am I right in thinking that they only came out in silver.

The first model was white body work, black engine, gold frame and wheels. The Grey/Silver model was the last one released.

Thanks, just worked it out, you have to wind up the head light. Pretty cool

Obviously the vin number would tell me, but could anyone help me with this

Only if the headlight module is US. If the headlight doesn't pop-up when the power is on and you select headlight then you are in the dark - Darkside. It's a common problem with this model and there are ways to fix it that won't break the bank. Finding genuine mirrors, now that will cost you.

I have both mirrors, one in great nick the other one, the boot rubber has been eating by rats

G'day Chris and welcome aboard - heaps of info here (well its starting to get back here after the last website we were on crashed and alot of stuff was lost). A few recent 'Darkside' Restos have just been completed so there will be plenty of help.

Post up your questions in the technical or general discussions sections. If you really feel up to it start a restoration thread to let us know how your going, progress, problems and plenty of pics!!!

Good luck and trust me the first ride will make all the work definitely worth it!!! You'll have a smile for at least 12 months and a horn for about 6!!. Cheers Rusty

Good one rusty, I'm excited already, what's the story with the darkside

The answer was back on page 1:

Sorry about the wrong info, I was told it was an 85 mod. But I just got the paint of the id tag, and its 11/84, luckily I ordered the right maneul. Any new info for me?

Hi Chris and welcome mate.
If you have a wind up headlight it'll be a Darkside.

Have a squizz at the Handy List at top of Restorations thread for info and tips, not a lot of Darkside stuff but I'll be bringing helpful threads over from the old site once home next week.
I'll let you know when there is something Darkside related.

What state are you in mate ?

Also there are many parts suppliers around....details of several on Handy List - Mick Hone give a 10% discount to Katana Australia members, just mention that to Adrian or Steve in the parts department.

Cheers
