Engine oils

Hi All,
I remember somewhere on here there was a discussion about engine oils to use (and not to use) in a standard 1100 SZ Kat motor. Sorry I've been trying to find that discussion but cannot.

So, what is recommended?

I've been using MOTUL 3000, but think I remember someone saying they used Valvoline XLD and changed the oil every 2,500km.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob, like just about any product these days there is too much choice. Anyway, as for Valvoline Premium XLD 20-50, it and the previous XLD which has now been branded by Valvoline as "Classic XLD" as it has a higher zinc content - (good for camshafts) than Premium XLD. I have been using XLD in my Kats since 1982. And yes, oil and filter changed at 2,000 - 2,500 km. The SXZ has just ticked over 200,000 km on road/street/touring use a couple of months ago and all seems well so far.

There are many oils out there however,

XLD 20-50 is wet clutch compatible,

20-50 is within the air temperature operation range,

Has proven itself to be reliable and not caused any issues to date.

I am happy with it.

Cheers,
Glen.
